Now I feel the need to look at some of the other stuff you have posted, just when I was about to hit the sack.

I wish we were aloud night hunting for predators around here. Sure looks like fun watching on TV the guys from Texas scanning for eyes with the caller screaming.

Oh but you can!!! Coon is a predator, and all it takes is a fee to register your dog as a coon hound, any breed will do, you can even have a ####zu in a fanny pack strapped to your chest or back with you, its a joke.

Just grab your best semi .22 (as it takes more than one one well placed shot, most of the time to put a decent size coon down) turn on your foxpro turn on your filtered (red/green) flashlight and wait for the fun to start, when "scruffy" starts barking start moving the light and unload on the bandit ;)

Plus you never know what might "charge" at you while your out there, maybe a pack of yotes, you might have no other choice but to put one of them down, if he's coming right for you.

Plus you don't have to be hunting at night to shoot a predator, its perfectly legal to defend your livestock, even if that livestock happens to be a lap dog strapped to your chest.

The key is being responsible and not unloading a 25 round mag and waking up anyone in the vicinity, be respectful of your surroundings, stay on task and be safe.

More lights.

Coon hunting at night with good hounds and a few good friends can be a blast. Going out alone with your dog(s) can be a lot of fun as well. It can also be a lot of exercise, and frustration, too. Coons don't always get treed 10 feet from a corn field, in a nice, wide open tree. Hounds will go anywhere the coon runs and that can be some pretty dirty spots.

But, if you like hunting with dogs and you're looking for a good way to spend the long fall nights- coon hunting is a great sport. I would encourage anyone who's interested to track down some local coon hunters and ask to join them for an evening. Hounds can be run on coon, in Ontario, all year long. The hide season is in the fall.

FWIW, I like Kelly's K-Lights. They're very easy to deal with and they make a very bright light.

also who hunts with flashlights. good to alert ur what ur hunting that ur coming. hey look at me i got a flashlight wooooo.

maybe every hunter in ontario that hunts coons at night? some might use lanterns or oil soaked rags on sticks, but i'll assume most stick to battery powered light.

you should try it sometime its definitely a different style of hunting...

:agree:
Hmmm, I never considered going coon hunting without my headlamp?? I've never seen any other coon hunters without headlamps either?? I'm taking Wendel out hunting tonight- maybe I'll leave my lamp at the truck and see how that works for me
