Never harvested anything at a range before...but had these little guys(another one just out of frame) wander onto part of my range AS we were shooting
Aha!!!!!!!!!! One of those guys who stands targets(the numbers) on top of the target frames and blasts them all to hell, the frames that is........then wonders why the target frames are always in need of repair. j/k......
Our club is located as the crow flies about a half mile from a municipal landfill so we have a steady stream at times of bears passing through. It is quite the sight to be on one of the ranges and watch a bear casually stroll by, look at you and continue on w/o a care. We also have alot of deer as well feeding on the berms and moose wandering through, in fact one took a look in the window at it's own reflection one day and took ou the televeision antenna with when it turned and left....
One of the best clubs I was ever involved at was a club in Lewiston New York, the 3F Gun nClub(Fin, Fur, Feather). They had a huge rifle range(outdoors), indoor rifle and handgun in the basement of the clubhouse, bar, dining room and dance/party hall, if memory serves 20+ skeet fields, a few trap fields, 350 acres of property, a 3D Archery course, bass ponds, duck ponds with nest boxes, deer stands and pheasant pens. They had a draw system for the members for deer, wild turkey and duck hunting and you drew your stand/day for hunting. You could purchase membership with or without pheasant hunting and if you purchased the pheasant membership you had so many hours of volunteer service to help with the feeding, raising and releasing of birds. You could also volunteer your services to guide on the pheasant hunts, ie: run the dogs. A friend of mine a few years older than I at the time( I was 16-18) was a paid member and we used to work there on weekends loading skeet machines, setting targets, feeding pheasants etc. it was a great time and a real fun place to hang out. I never had issue with hunting on the ranges and always thought it would be an awesome idea to develop the club I belong to now in that way. It was conducted in a very safe manner with areas that were off limits to hunting and hunting and shooting took place on different days to allow huntin g in some of the areas where there was an overlap in activities. I'd still love to see our club develop into this kind of format but doubt I will ever see a membership large enough or strong enough to support such an endeavour...dare to dream.
