Hunting/ATV accident

Never had an issue loading in a pick up with ramps, always use low range and 4wd, sit low don't stand, plus secure the ramps to the tail gate latches with a strap. I usually unload by by letting it roll off, just grab a back tire and give it a roll. Factory tires are garbage (on Hondas for sure), I always get rid of them first thing after purchase and use ITPs or similar with a good sidewall and tread.

My dad taught me to use the winch if you've got one. Pull yourself up the ramps, rather than driving.
That's actually a really good tip. Easy enough with newer trucks to run a strong rope between the front tie downs and then hook onto it with the winch. Wish I had known this back in 2011!

Actually, I wouldn't do that. If you tie a rope between the right and left front anchor points and hook your winch in the middle you're creating a mechanical advantage and risk bending your bed in. Ask me how I know!

I am not in the best physical condition right now with a bum knee. A buddy got a deer yesterday and I helped him take it off the quad and hoist it up in his garage.
He was quite a ways back ( 20KM) in the boon docks when he shot that deer, and it's very soft still up here. One look at the amount of mud on his quad reminded me that I would be in for some pretty tough going that far back! LOL
I hunt along some pretty crazy trails that the adventure bikers have put in along existing deer trails, lots of steep and off camber stuff, so I am extra vigilant in my old age about where I am , and my footing.
Getting an animal out of there without doing serious injury to myself is my biggest concern these days.

Bending #### is certainly something to keep in mind when using this method, but I'd take a bent bed over a flipped atv (or a broken back window lol - I'm sure a few people around here have done that too). Brace the bed with a 4x4 on the cab side of the anchor points maybe?

For sure, I wasn't knocking the winching method. It's definitely a good and safe method but be mindful of your anchor point. I slightly bent the bed of my truck at the anchor point loading my moose trailer (which is lighter than a quad) winching in the back of the truck using the two anchor points like BUM mentioned.

I just use a small 5x10 trailer with a tall ramp tailgate.

Lower ramp angle, safer to load plus I can haul other toys like lawn tractors, dirtbike and do cheap runs to the dump, haul gravel etc etc.

I think every peoplekind out of the city needs a good trailer.

Seriously though, if you can’t load and unload a quad into a truck bed without pinning it, flipping it or smashing a window you shouldn’t be on the damn thing in the first place lol. Learn how to control the throttle, or try putting it in 4low and crawl it up the ramp.
Agreed. Use ramps long enough to not be super steep, 4x4, Low range and smoothly crawl up.

I bought one of those black plastic sleds then I bought 1 inch x 1/16 flat stock and laid it flat on bottom side of sled . Helps keep bottom of sled getting pounded by rocks stumps etc and protects from crossing roads etc and you can put as much weight that you want and you dont have to lift your deer bear etc 3 feet off ground to put on atv
