Hunting bear alone.

90% of my hunting, camping, fishing, etc is solo.... LOTS of bears around here. hell saw 4 blacks and griz on the way home from fishing last night. don;t quite undertand the big "ooooo scary bear hunting" vibe....
if you can't handle hunting alone just yet, may I suggest waiting untill you're out of diapers then trying again?

You might wanna team up with someone for your first time out. Bear hunting can go bad fast. I think anyone that would invite you along and then leave you alone probably hasn't thought it thru very well.
See if one of the fellas wants to team up for the trip. It will be easier on your nerves and set you up for a solo at a later date.

if you drop the bear dead in it's tracks, then its ok,but even then its good to have someone along to help skin and pack[bears can be big-with nothing to hang on to]But if your bear runs on the shot-they have the uncanny ability to pick the thickest stuff you ever saw-like tangled brush where its over your head and you can't see your shoes,and you are pushing your way in-then those afore mentioned diapers just might come in handy

Aren't you just everybodies friend. Sometimes the most stupid things are done when someone is not afraid. I was not feeling very worried about it but in my life people have died doing things they thought were perfectly safe so I was just asking. Comments like the one from Ratherbefishin are helpful.

Some guys are just poking fun at you. No harm at all with asking an experienced bear hunter to show you the ropes. If you never changed your oil in your life and you had a buddy who did his all the time, you'd probably ask him over to show you what's what the first time you did it too. Would it be any smarter to go after bear if you don't know what you are doing? Now if you play your cards right you can also get him to show you how to skin it while you watch real careful like. And ask him if he skinned out those last knuckle joints in the paws right as they can be a #####...

Don't be offended.....I'm sure you realize that those guys are just kidding you
IMO, you are absolutely doing the appropriate thing by asking questions.
Admittedly, I am now strictly a bird hunter and haven't gone after big game since my arrival in Canada. However, basis past experience - precautions (plus common sense) will be mandatory i.e. if you are completely new at this. As a matter of fact, those same precautions may also apply to those who are already well experienced.
Some basic questions I would ask myself if I was in your shoes.....
How well do I know the area I'm gonna be hunting?
How far is my group planning to disperse individually?
Mode of communication - radio etc?
How proficient am I with compass/map etc?
IMP - What's my familiarity/confidence level with the choice of firearm? AND how would I react if I end up simply wounding the game on my own (happens no matter how good one may be
)?And the best approach IMHO - tag on with an experienced buddy for the first time. A more experienced/understanding hunter (companion) will recognize the need and will likely encourage that.....and you most certainly won't be considered lesser male for that.

If your fairly new at this, I'd suggest that you go with a friend. I sure do hope that the people who previously supported hunting bears with a .223 (especially an SKS POS) do go alone though. bahahaha
Yet the SKS is still far better to hunt Bear and even deer with then the .223 Ruger mini.
