Just hopped on ebay and found a pair of hunting boots I had been looking for, for about 5 yeras now and was never able to find them..

With the dollar being as it is, they weren't overly expensive either..

It's a good time to buy packs, boots etc from the U.S. if you're buying..

Sealhunter, excellent choice! I am on my second set of Irish Setters (they last a long time). I have one piece of advice - keep the insides of the boot as clean as you can. The lining which keeps you dry is sensitive to grit. Minor amounts of sand, dirt, crushed dried leaves or anything else that accumulates in the boot will shorten the life of the liner. At the end of the day, pull the removable insole out of the boot, shake them out, take the vacuum cleaner or an air hose to the insides and make sure they are clean. If you do this the lining will last for years and your feet will stay perfectly dry even in the wettest weather. If you don't, the boot will start to seep moisture after a few seasons of use.

The rest of the boot seems impervious to just about everything, including hidden strands of barbed wire and half buried plough shares.

Go and get yourself some really tall socks, ones that reach over the top of the boot. Trust me on this one.

Good boots are the best investment you can make, I am happy that you found a set for a decent price. Congrats!

This is my second pair:)

I had a pair of slip on (still have) knee boots, very similar to this pair...
You are dead on with everything you said. About 4 years aho I tried on a pair of these, they are an insulted hunting snake boot. What I really noticed was the support and comfort from the laces. At the time, I opted not to buy, and returned to find they were sold. I have searched high and low since then. It's easy enough to find the non insulated ones...
but an 11.5 sz insulated high laceup, seemed to be like hens teeth..

Last place I looked that actually had them, was selling at 229.99 US
most places now say.."unavailable from the manufacturer"

description:

UltraDry fabric lining, Mossy Oak Break-up Cordura fabric, TecTuff leather. Moisture wicking nylon lining, 1000 Gram Thinsulate ultra insulation. Moisture wicking EVA comfort with ScentBan footbed, steel shank, snake-proof. Tri-layer ultra light camo midsole, Bulls-Eye air bob aggressive sole, cement construction.

Not to rain on your parade but my experience with this boot was less than satisfactory with respect to it being waterproof. The first pair leaked from day one. While moose hunting and after getting in and out of the boat a few times into 6 or 8 inches of water the boots were like a sponge and feet were soaked. The remainder of that 10 day fly-in hunt was a daily stuggle to try and stay dry. On returning home at the end of the hunt they were replaced without hesitation by the retailer - with a knowing look on his face. The second pair was no better. They seem to be OK on wet ground or in high wet grass but useless in standing water. I hope your experience is better than mine. Now that was about 5 years ago and maybe Irish Setter has since corrected the problem.

x 2 on that, mine are great, comfortable boots but when walking through deep puddles my feet get wet. In wet grass, leaves etc they are fine. Those propane powered boot dryers are worth their weight in gold IMO. The gore-tex that is supposed to keep the boots dry prevents them from drying from the outside in when put near the wood stove, using the propane dryer, no such problems.

I have no idea for vancouver...mine came off ebay...

As for the waterproofness.. I found my other Irish Setters pretty good, but not in deep water. I did use them bush hunting in the rain wet snow and crossing shallow streams, with zero issue. Onces the watter got half way up the boot, things got damp..

These boots are for bush hunting with little water immersion, so I'm hoping they will do well

If you can't find any in Vancouver, just slip on down to the Cabelas in Washington State. They have tons of Irish Setters (and they are the most confortable boots I have ever worn, with the exception of a custom made pair that cost me 600 bucks). What you should do though before you head down there, is call them and order them (you can have them brought into the store as a delivery option) and then if you don't like them when you try them on, then you just return them for a refund right there....Plus gives you a great excuse to wander the isles for a few hours :)

wow, you know what they say about guys with big feet?;)

my binlaw swears by the IS, wish I could afford one:(

I can't say as to what you can or can't afford, and these boots I have bought, are good boots.

For what I have spent on stuff that falls apart and is uncomfortable over the years, I could have saved a fair penney by buying good boots years and years ago.

I will also add, that knee rubbers were very common place for me for many years and my Dad wears nothing but white sole knee rubbers fron Cdn tire, about $30...he has shot more birds, hiked beyond my limits, walked thousands of miles in those type boots..
I never ever really found them all that uncomfortable myself,... I just hated that when it was wet, it was like walking with banna peels on your feet, and they weren't warm in late fall.

Get on ebay, and I would be surprised if you could not find a decnt boot, Irish Setter, Danners, Cabella;s, prospectors, or similar for under $70 if you keep an eye out...

I cant complain about my issued MkII, will prolly have to get a pair of semidecent rubbers for those wormer wetter days out in the bush, but Ill keep an eye on the ebay as well

I just got the Le Barons cateloge in the mail and they have them as well. I looked at them long and hard... still thinking about getting a pair but how are they in the cold weather? Now I mean Saskatchewan cold, none of this BC cold.;)
