Hunting boots !!

I got a pair of Irish Setter Raptors, now discontinued, after my Rocky Bear Claws wore out...The Raptors are 1200gram, nice for colder days, too warm for early fall though...

Geologist says ge wears his elk trackers up north (arctic) and they're good.

I was wearing my old IS 800 gram hunting boots all through the fall and into late december,.. after that I would have needed a heavier insulation,..I'm really hoping that these new boots will allow me to get in some fall and winter hunting with just asjusting the socks I wear...

In the winter I wear Acton boots, they are rated for -125 and I never freeze in them. You could get them on sale for about 100$ . My feet freese easy and this has been the best pair of boots for cold that I have found yet. The best test for me was long stands while coyote hunting in Jan/Feb. They passed the test:)
 
The problem I have with big winter boots, is that they are usually so insulated and padded, my feet and toes get cold due to no movement,..when I get a bigger size,..well...then they're oo big to do anything with..

The only way I can ware big padded boots and keep my feet warm, seems to be with no socks on,..go figure..

There certainly is a difference in the boots that keep you warm when your just standing around (coyote hunting, treestand,etc) and the ones that are made to keep you warm while hiking and trekking..
 
I need a good pair of "scent free" boots. IE rubber for less odour transfer on the ground. Problem is my feet are always cold.

Suggestions???

More stand hunting then walking.
 
check out BC Auction-they generally have a good selection of leather military boots for $10 a pair-some nearly new.Some goretex as well.Got a lot of gear there.last week they were selling off carton loads of brand new military sweaters...makes you wonder

Lacrosse Burly 800's or the 1000's.

I wear them in the treestand...temp. down to -10 C. Very comfortable to walk in...
You can order them from Cabela's US...get 1/2 size smaller than you normally wear. I usually wear 10.5, size 10 is perfect.

1st pair I had lasted 11 years, I'm 6 years into my 2nd pair. :)
 
Good boots start well beyond IS and Danner. The last pair of boots I bought cost me north of $600. Darned expensive, but worth every penny.

For colder weather I use Schnees pac's.
 
You definitely can't go wrong with Irish Setters. I used to have a pair of their Big Game Tracker II boots (loved them, but they're discontinued), and just got a pair of the Mountain Claws online from Al Flaherty's. Very solid boots for the price.

Now for me, that's where justification comes in..

$600 boots
$600 camo
$2000 gun
$1000 dog
$800 decoys
$300 Knife
$500 backpack

Many people have to make their compromises...
Especially if hunting is not the only thing you are involved in..

I have hunted with maybe 2 people out of hundreds, whose boots were more than $500,...but it all comes down to personal decision... and the actual requirement.

I always find "good anything" to be a relative term...
 
Justify a broken ankle 20 + hours from the nearest light socket.
