So your saying at the end of the day when the hunting is done and guns are safely put away and any other chores have been taken care of that you don’t ever have a glass of wine or ice cold beer with dinner? Or maybe a nice rye on ice on the porch as the sun goes down, remember all the firearms are cased or locked up all safe and sound for the night.

Have done it more than once, not being able to would never be a reason for me to give up a chance to hunt.

Then again consuming alcohol does not determine my enjoyment of activities.

You are presuming that all will partake sensibly. IF they can do that, and I highly doubt they can I would say yes. Last year a good friend of mine was out Moose hunting when a bear decided to visit. Good for him he runs a dry camp, bad for the bear it adorns the floor of his home. This is an extreme case but it does illustrate that might happen. Besides I can do without the bathwater that passes for a beer for a few weeks.

Oh I get it and I mainly drink a bit with dinner or one or two after a long day of working outside, it’s not a deal breaker for me. I’d rather hunt if I had to make the choice but it’s nice if everyone is on the same page and is good with a drink or two with dinner. The only time I’m happily an early to bed and early to rise guys is for hunting or snowboarding, first light and first tracks wait for nobody. Otherwise I like to get up and have a couple cups of coffee before I get out of bed and get the morning going.

Haha, no I don’t presume that. Too many friends have shown me otherwise and I’ve partied hard at times in my 20’s, I don’t get much done hungover so I don’t really drink to excess anymore. Exceptions are made when away on vacation or long weekends when we go camping and don’t leave the fire, then I don’t mind having a few with my friends.

southern ontario is a great place to hunt, shouldn't be hard finding a group that would like a new hunter in their team. ranges, gun shops, even make a wanted ad
and put it up in fishing world. they are good people there. i could probably have a chance to take a hunt on. im in the area.
attention if it is the controlled deer draw shot gun/muzzle loader season you want to be part of the draw deadline is AUGUST 31

hello everyone.

I'm a new, young hunter wanting more and better experience. I have my PAL for a few years I know all of the gun safety and rules. also have my own gear to go hunting with and license of course. I just do not have a big car to fit anything bigger then small game (maybe a turkey)

I have gone a few times hunting only shooting a duck and small game.. I really want to go this year with more fun friendly people.

I'm located in SouthWestern Ontario.

if anyone is willing to teach young a guy and have fun feel free to pm me.

I would like to meet and get to know each other first before going out.

Well, it's unfortunate that you don't live close-by to me, I'd take you out for birds and bucks. I have placed many young guys under my wing and today they are on their own doing it themselves. You do need a mentor, don't give up, and if it is a passion, it will happen, best of luck!

I agree, finding a mentor is a fantastic thing.
I was not that fortunate as a young hunter and had to do it all myself and learn from my mistakes.
My first buck was not untill my 5th year hunting and most certainly not for lack of trying hehehe
I have been a solo hunter my entire hunting life for over 60% of my hunting trips , especially for deer and game birds.

so don't be discouraged for lack of mentors , though i hope you find someone.

Congrats guncanuck, that you don't smoke or drink!!! My camp is dry as well. My son and I are very serious hunters and it shows on our walls......lots of big racks!!! While others get their "false high" at camp from drugs and alcohol, we get ours doing this.............measuring up the big racks and telling hunting stories, with sober minds.

Congrats guncanuck, that you don't smoke or drink!!! My camp is dry as well. My son and I are very serious hunters and it shows on our walls......lots of big racks!!! While others get their "false high" at camp from drugs and alcohol, we get ours doing this.............measuring up the big racks and telling hunting stories, with sober minds.

so what your trying to say is that dry camps make better hunters with more impressive trophy walls..... LOL
my friend that us just silly
I too take my harvesting very seriously and have long stopped worrying about padding my trophy count. Though I'm always proud of them when they happen I'm happy to pass on the shot so my partner can be "that guy" and share in the experience.
We seldom drink in our personal lives but when we hunt together or fish together we always have a bottle of rum on the trip between us. Just one, we don't drink to even catch a buzz and the flask only comes out at responsible times for a shared nip now and then over the camp fire. No one gets drunk or alters thier state of beings in our camps, everyone consumes responsibly. So our non dry camp has been awfully successfull over the years. Trophies for the walls, meat in the freezers and we don't have to brag that our non dry camp can keep up to the guys with the sticks up thier butts who think they are better for it.

LOL I just had too, it's one of those days haha

edit.... and i gave up smoking cigarettes almost 5 years ago now?.... maybe 4..... but I still light a cigar to check the wind when I'm hunting

The OP can pick and choose which camp he wishes to hunt. My son and I will continue to pursue mature whitetails and celebrate with a cup of coffee or a coke-a-cola.

awesome man, it's great you can hunt with your son. He's a lucky man and so are you.
