Hunting Caliber Questiom

lots of 30-06 in walmart of various bullet weights. If you are out in the sticks and need ammo - shoot something stocked by crappy tire or walmart

I think a twenty round box of .303British with hunting bullets, Winchester, Federal, Remington is likely to be $40 retail. I reload, but I check the price of my calibres when I'm in C.Tire, Wal-Mart, Wholesale Sports, Cabela's.

Tjv787 if I didn't have a sentimental attachment to the .303British I'd make .30-06Springfield or .308Winchester my general purpose big game calibre, partly for the reasons you are asking.

My local Canadian Tire are selling Winchester 180gr silver box for something along the lines of 26.99.

My preference leans toward .308, however I would guess to 30-06 being more popular with the majority of big game hunters between the two.

Definitely easier to find either one of these two larger calibre rounds compared to any others in stores here in Canada. Based on the fact I have looked at what's available everywhere ammo. is sold for years.

A hunter after larger game would likely benefit from 30-06 compared to .308, but I feel the difference is negligible.

The top selling calibers in hunting rifles at this time are, 308, 30-06, .300WM, .300WSM, and 7mmRM. There are many other popular cartridges but none of them sell as well as these 5. Not even .223 sell better than these 5.

Apparently local conditions vary. I can reload for cheaper than that, but if I were passing through your neighbourhood I'd buy some for convenience and to reuse the brass.
