hunting caliber recommendations

lol, nope, I would have been 10 years old.

bought a 1981 Marlin 2 months ago.

I'm a little disappointed. But definitely approve of your selection!

Have you looked for a hunting forum for the area? The content might get you fired up about one prospect or another, and help with your firearm selection.

I've always wanted a 336 in 35 Rem and its a keeper. Shoots super well and very smooth action. and its a pre-cross bolt so thats cool too.

as for looking ahead, I'm starting to follow the SCI SD group and joined calnet to start looking for opportunities. there's a hunting ranch just an hour north of SD which is a easy "show up and shoot an animal" scenario if i really needed as well. they have lots of different breeds of hogs and rams/sheep to harvest.

being military, I'm sure there will be numerous hunting groups on bases there that i will find too.

I'm thinking my best western rifle for weight and caliber is my tikka t3, its the 7mmRM sitting in a B&C stock, however my 308 is a sako grey wolf, and i find it hard to leave to go hunting anything without taking it. except for being a bit heavier, I don't think there's anything the 308 couldn't do that the 7mmRM can. (within my shooting limits, anyways)

They have elk in S. Ontario now?

In Bancroft, yeah.

90 elk were brought in to a fenced area to be acclimated to the area, and studied for a potential future release. But they all broke out as soon as they brought them in, and they accidentally released 90 Elk into the area. They assumed they’d die off, but numbers have grown and there’s a draw for them now.

There were actually over 400 brought in from AB and the population is now estimated around 1000, with 20+ draw tags being issued in the Bancroft area. Not sure how they're holding up in the other regions they were reintroduced

a couple years back my group drew a cow tag in WMU 61 or 62 ( I forget now) but we called in a satellite bull, had him in the crosshairs at 90 yds bugling at us, but he had no cows with him so we just watched till he got pissed and left.

coolest thing ever, felt like I was out west hunting but in reality I was just north of hwy 7 in Kaladar.
