Hunting Camo Patterns too dark??

Camo only works if you use it intelligently, something lost on most wearers. Just wearing the stuff isn't going to make you successful. In fact drab solid colored clothes can be as effective as the fanciest Copyrighted pattern. Check this guys camo out, he did quite well for himself. Guess his name? :)

Hmmmm.... That dude don't know JACK about camo!

What kills me are the guys who wear camo while fishing

fish are easily scared and can easily see people. Camo while shore/stream fishing actually makes a lot of sense. However I suspect most people have limited amounts of outdoor gear and use the same stuff for hunting and fishing.

At one time I saw a blaze orange - red - blaze yellow camo pattern. At first I wondered WTH? but thinking about it I considered if deer etc only see shades of black and white would that pattern actually work?

It would be interesting to be able to actually SEE what the deer etc SEE when looking at various colours.

Personally I am colour blind which is actually a misnomer...we see colours just not the same way other people do. So some things I see very well, such as a white rabbit on snow, while other things I cannot see at all such as orange seismic tape hanging on a tree at any distance.

Human beings are conditioned to look for things by movement, colour differences, and shape...generally speaking in that order as well. Because colour blind people generally have difficulty looking for colour difference they naturally default to shape as their second condition.

Mother nature has proven to be highly adaptable and yet few game animals have developed "camo" pattern outer wear. Something that has always amazed me is how a black/dark brown moose disappears in the bush????

Yep - the predator camo works pretty well. Most of the other stuff just makes you look like a multi colored blob.

X2 on the predator camo. This stuff is very effective in the terrain in the background, the breakup blaze vest seems to make a difference from the orange staypuff'd marshmallow man jacket I used to wear for rifle too. I have some less insulated stuff for archery in various browns and greens that I've had great luck getting real close up with. It means the difference between sitting in front of cover or behind it IMO. Wind direction still reigns supreme however....

I have lots of different camo, if it was available in coyote or whatever, thats what I would wear. But since it's hard to find, camo it is. I like the features with pockets and such that you just can't find with regular gear. Carharrt is the only exception really as some of it is quite usefull. I really like my rush 12 backpack in sandstone.

I hunt with a big orange vest, plaid jacket, jeans and my big rubber boots. My stealth consists of noise and wind direction. If your close enough to be seen it don't matter what camo you wear.

If I had to pick a pattern for the woods, I have found that the CADPAT works pretty good.

Shoreline makes sense, but I was thinking about the guys on their bass boats.... I agree, likely just outdoor gear.

One of the critical things i find is covering the hands and face which really stand out, especially at bow hunting distances. A lot of hunters put on pants and jacket and forget all about gloves and face cover and those are things you notice right away. I have a camo boonie hat with face netting which is fantastic
A hood on your camo jacket is very important as it serves to somewhat break up your overall shape and allows you to turn your head inside the hood with a minimum of external movement. I will never in future buy a camo jacket without a hood.

From my internet searches it appears that the civilian ASAT and Predator camo brands are very highly thought of.

The most effective military camo I have ever seen is the Swiss Alpenflage. Even though it is a closer pattern and has some red and blue in it, it seems to practically disappear when seen at distance. The jacket is well designed with nice deep snap pockets in the front and even comes with an attached sack/backpack to carry items. Being made of cotton it's also fairly silent when walking.

Camo for hunting big game with a rifle is completely useless. Not quite useless for bowhunting but certainly not essential. Big game does not see colour, but UV light shines pretty well to their eyes, and they notice any motion.
Birds see colour very well. Good camo is hard to find that works well for the waterfowl hunting that I do, shooting ducks and geese in pea and barley stubble. Even the stuff supposedly designed for cattail marshes is too dark.

And I happen to know the fellow well who distributes it - Dennis is a heck of a nice guy and a great sportsman. You will be pleased dealing with him.

Great Aussie company making Camo for High country hunters.....
If anyones Interested I may be able to Sort something out.. Would be awesome to see it along side a Mulie or elk etc...

ALOT lighter than most Camos ive seen.
