Hunting Coyotes

Hello all,

I am getting ready to do some coyote hunting for pelts up near Orangeville area this late fall, as the MNR is offering money for pelts collected. I use the meat too, what little is decent. (I don't like wasting). I also like to keep the skulls.

Now, in the past I've borrowed rifles to hunt with, mostly a .22 Magnum and Hornet.

I am planning this year to take my 6.5mm Japanese out and hunt with it. I am, however, confused as to how large a caliber I can use for hunting them? Can I use 7.5X55 or .303? I know 7.62X54 Russian is too strong. I use only milsurps from my collection.

Let me know, I know I probably sound bonkers, but it's a sport and with milsurps it's a passion.

It's in the regulations. If you're county ain't in the list at the beginning if the small games section you can use whatever you want. If it's in the list you're limited to .275 or smaller.

Orangeville is in Dufferin isn't it? I don't even try and decipher the mess that is around Toronto anymore.

The holder of a small game licence may not use a rifle of
greater calibre than .275, except a flintlock or percussion
cap muzzle-loading gun, for hunting small game in the
counties of Brant, Elgin, Essex, Huron, Lambton, Middlesex,
Northumberland, Oxford, Perth and Wellington and the
regional municipalities of Chatham/Kent, Durham, the
former regional municipalities of Haldimand-Norfolk and
Hamilton-Wentworth, Halton, Niagara, Peel, Waterloo and
York and the City of Toronto.

yup orangeville is in dufferin. .275 or smaller. Tons of coyotes around, good luck.

0.2640 in is the bullet diameter of my 6.5 Jap Arisaka, so I'm good to go! Only one word for you Willie E's... BANZAI!
