Hello all. I've just moved to Nova Scotia and would like to go deer hunting in the fall. The process to acquire licencing and tags seems complicated. Can anyone explain to me how I would go about legally hunting deer in Nova Scotia, and where?

And no hunting on sundays? what the hell? Sunday is THE best day to go hunting.

Go to the DNR office... They will explain everything....

In 4 weeks im moving to Victoria... cant wait to get out of N.S, I hate this place....

I'd be more worried about securing access. Most of NS is private land and getting permission unless you know people or have family is challenging. The paperwork is easy....
Best of luck!

This thread reminds me of the controversy over the Chignecto Game Sanctuary. I wonder if the NS bowhunters for WT deer still have their hunting season there?
While on the subject, I'm sure someone can fill us in on Tobectic and Liscombe primitive hunting areas too?
IIRC, one was archery only and the other muzzleloading long guns only.

Word is we will have Sunday hunting this fall for deer, no one will confirm it and until it's in the rule book it's just a rumor.

What part of N.S. are you moving to?

Been hearing "words" of that sort for as long as I can remember... they rarely pan out...

We can hunt the 3 Sundays of Deer season only here in NB. However, we have heard rumours we may be able to hunt Pheasnts this upcoming season for the past 5 years now and I'm yet to get setup to start reloading Pheasants loads.

In my opinion, it all comes down to what office you go to.

For instance, when I was 15, they gave me a regular Deer tag for some reason, not youth, which is required to be 16.

Wasn't too complicated for me, and I had odd circumstances in play.

I'm glad I'm in eastern BC, I can hunt Mule deer, White tail, Elk and Moose 7 days a week every year from Sept. to Nov. with all the public land you can imagine!

Even though I was born in the eastern Canada, I have no interest in retiring anywhere else due to the awesome hunting here in eastern BC!
Very little private land, amazing scenery, and tons of sunshine, with world class hunting!
