Hunting Deer With A .223?

The bigger deer tend to be up high in the mountains
You're allowed to shoot 15 and I think it's open for seven or eight months out of the year on Haida Gwaii what more can a guy ask for
The biggest mistake I see from hunters from the mainland is that will be over scope !
If you have good eyesight go with Iron sights, low powered scopes or red dots is the only way to go when hunting Blacktail deer
I am using a Leopold 1.5-4 low Powered scope which works wonderful rarely do I ever have to turn up the magnification on the scope I just keep it on one
And sight it in for 25 yards regardless of what caliber I'm using works for me

I haven't read every page but from what I have read the majority of posters are giving opinion based on no knowledge. As one informed poster said reference to many threads on the 24hourcampfire will prove the capabilities of .22 centrefire cartridges. Also, to clarify a point touched on earlier, in Ontario in rifle seasons any centrefire cartridge is legal, only rimfires are prohibited.
Something a lot of the americans don't elaborate on is the circumstances under which they shoot their deer. If they are shooting over a feeder or a food plot at standing undisturbed deer it should be easy to place the shot. Also many of them don't seem to relate to the fact so many of them shoot custom barreled rifles having fast twists which accommodate bullets heavier than what most consider to be normal in a .223.
Personally I have never hunted deer with a .22 centrefire. Many hunts are conducted with the use of dogs or drivers. In these cases the deer are adrenalized and in my opinion are much harder to stop since pin point placement isn't possible.
My point in saying all this is that there is no pat answer. One size does not fit all circumstances. Every one is entitled to an opinion even if it is based on a complete lack of knowledge.

It has never been legal to hunt deer with a 22 rimfire in BC to be honest just about everybody that I know including myself has at one time or another use a 22 LR on deer legal or not we still did it.
Using dogs or driving deer would never work for Blacktail deer.
The most effective method here is to use a homemade doe call during the rut

wow, the use of dogs!!! I know two dogs that would just love to accompany me on deer hunts, but that is illegal here in MB! They can't even tag along just for the fun of it. Adrenalized meat is not very good at all! We here use the 30 min wait rule, if you get a runner after being shot, we wait a full 30 mins before tracking, it becomes coffee time, just sit and relax, it doesn't happen very often, but if it does, one is much better off to sit and wait out the time and not heat up the meat on the run by giving chase. Chances are you will find the runner only a few yards away bled out.
Yikes! I can only imagine what that exhausted and heated up meat would taste like. Ah yes, they did say this was the method before these dudes had "weapons", as they called them. I guess ya gotta do what ya gotta do, if you wanna eat. Thanks for the video.

I wouldn't. Yeah a .22LR has been known to kill (and mortally wound) a lot of deer and moose.

I still have my old doe call, plus I use doe pee and apple scent to get the buggers in tight.

I believe I have a diagram of one of these homemade calls in one of my books here somewhere, if there is any interest I could dig it up and try to scan and post it. Several years ago an old timer I know here gave me one of these that he had made but it has since been lost, but I have also purchased a store bought call here at wss which is the same idea and made the same sound, was a rubber band between two pieces of plastic. Wish I could say I've actually called one in

Technique I use is I look fore a doe wen I see one I get on the call right a way she will com right in keep bowing the call the is a buck hiding and he will com in you just need a bit of patients
If the buck don't com out shoot the big is doe with is usually standing right beside me
