Hunting dog-to neuter/spay or not

A hunting buddy's beagle damn near tore the nutsack off himself this year dogging deer. Seems like a good enough reason right there.

Granted he's a little lower to the ground than some dogs, but he's a determined little cuss.

I wonder what scientific proof, rather than speculation, says about any effects neutering may or may not have on a dog?

I was fifty fifty on the procedure, the fact my pup only dropped one ball put him in 10x likely category to develop testical cancer, so jewels had to go. I didn't notice any change in his behaviour towards other animals, drive, appetite, his usual cheerfulness. Had a visit at vet few weeks back, it's been about 6 months since and he only gained 1lb, it's almost makes me feel that it's the owners attitude after the procedure that defines how dog will be affected, almost

I am an "old guy".....My wife and I have had bird dogs for ever....In our opinion, neutering is the way to go .....unless you are planning to use your dog for breeding. The operation will not dampen your dogs hunting drive at all.Heat cycles and ### drive issues can be problems in unneutered dogs. There are good arguments that neutering will decrease certain health risks..The neutering procedure is easier on a younger animal than an older one. Dogs are wonderful creatures......Try to give your dog the best life possible.
