My wife and I recently picked up a pudelpointer (pics coming soon) that i'd like to train to do retrieval and a upland. Does anyone have any tips on hunting dog training? I'm in the edmonton area, is there any good hunting training places around here? Anything would help :)

thanks!

I believe there is the Edmonton retriever club
also if you can get your hands on a copy of
Bill Hillmann training a retriever puppy Dvd its also on youtube
also ask on the Alberta outdoorsmen forum
there is a lot of knowledgeable people there that will help you out with your questions and answers

Congratulations on your new pup. I hunt with Pudelpointers as well. The single best training book I have ever found is the so called "green" book put out by the North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association or NAVHDA. The Training and Care of the Versatile Hunting Dog Price: US$17.50 and is available on their website by mail order.
A retriever club can help you with obedience and retriever training, but their approach is not the best for versatile dogs. Retrievers have a much stronger retrieving instinct, they don't point upland birds and they are usually not trained to track. There is one or perhaps two NAVHDA chapters near Edmonton, the Wild Rose Chapter is one I've heard about. The would have experienced members who can help you a lot.
