So my dads buddy just lost his hunting buddy a few weeks a go (heart attack- probably up there with the 8-pointer he took just a week before his heart gave out) and he's looking for a new hunting buddy to take with him.
I'm really interested in hunting and all, but I don't have my hunting license yet. So I was wondering, if under the Ontario Hunting Regulations, if I'd be able to go, unlicensed, but not shoot anything, and only assist in the dressing/butchering of the game?

Yes. Sign up for the required courses as soon as you can, but meanwhile, going along to observe is good investment of your time. There is lots to learn outside the classroom.

You sure can go along, as long as you don't participate in the hunt. You can't be "wandering" around in the woods in hopes of driving a critter his way, legally anyway. I asked an MNR officer about tagging along hunting, and this is basically what they told me. If they see a hunter on one side of the field and someone doing whatever on the other side of the woods, they want to be sure he isn't driving deer. But you can certainly tag along. I heard about one guy (former co-worker) who will sit in one stand with a case of beer while his buddies sit in theirs. If they get something he pitches in, if not, he catches a buzz.

Just go get your hunting lic and get it over with. Many places offer numerous hunting ed classes and you can probably pick any weekend(s) you wish. Why be on the sidelines when you have the opportunity to participate? That would be silly.

Sounds like that guys got it made! Especially if sitting outside enjoying a nice morning in the bush is what you enjoy!
