Just bought a Wheaterby S2 257 Wtby mag an EGW piccinaty rail from Prophet and 6 boxes of original Wheaterby 100 gr spitzer ammo from Wolverine, this caliber i always was fascinated with, i know will have the chance to get a taste of it on my next caribou hunt... JP.

They work good on game and they will also make you wish you got one sooner.
As a diehard 308 fan, i am now getting out of my confort zone, but this is a mytic caliber, very deadly on game and average recoil, gonna scope that kind of 3X12X50 Zeiss or similar... JP.

There should be zip for recoil on dat dar Wheaterby............ : D
The outfit chose to keep them fair heavy in my opinion for the lighter calibers.
But man oh man, are they ever cummfy.
Targets up when you get them................... and an honest to goodness
range report........biens eh mals svp..............

How about a 3-12x42 Schmidt & Bender Klassik?

Caramel.......are you sure you're ready to stray from your 308 "comfort zone", this is a huge step up, maybe you should have gone '06 then 7 mag then maybe 264 WM..........to jump right from 308 to 257 Wby, not sure you'll suvive the "culture shock"............Rainbows to lazer beams, I don't know.......LOL

Caramel, you must be made aware of one downside to the 257 Bee, it is a trophy hunters cartridge. You will NOT be able to eat up to the hole as you can with a 308. I have taken 3 caribou with it and elected for shoulder shots on all three, there was absolutely nothing left edible from the ears to the last rib. The blood shock and bruising was extensive, literally from 1/2 way up the neck to the last rib was completely destroyed. Stick to rib shots if you intend to eat more than 1/2 your animal. It is one of the most devstating cartridges I have ever seen, except possibly the 300 RUM with 150-165 gn bullets like my kid uses.

All calibers you stated, i own and shot, but for me those are highly functional caliber, but none of them steam passion out like the 308, the 257 was on my list since very long time, calibers likes 300 ulta mag and 338 LM are sleeping in my safe, my CZ 550 416 Rigby and my Browning 375 H&H have become safe queen since i am not going to Africa no more, we choosen la Cote d'Azur, with the reclassification, we may loose many fun rifles, the one that i like very much is my Steyr SBS Big bore 450 Marlin ( passion caliber ) for me shooting is passion all the way, hope the 257 Wtby mag trigger that here... Cheers. JP.

I always wondered why the 264 Win Mag was always considered: "seriously overbored, a barrel-burner, and nothing more than an underloaded 270", yet the 257 Wby Mag is a wonder child.

I have a 257 STW and love it.

Scope problem solved, i was looking in my gun room this morning ( under a big pile of boxes), did found an unboxed Vortex 6.5X20X50, i bought a year ago and had completly forgot about, not a top notch scope but fair enough to mount on my 257 Wtby mag... JP.

I almost feel sorry for someone who waits for their last hunting years to arrive before discovering the .257 Weatherby. Oh well, better late than never.

Dont feel sorry for me two hundred somes rifles have cross my path, take it as a good dessert after a big steak... JP.

Just ordered from Wholesale 6 boxes of original Wheaterby ammo in 87 gr Hornady Interlock, i knew i'd find something to take back my 350.00 credit i had there for over a year....
Almost 3900 fps, this is plain crazy, i think it is even faster than my 220 Swift... JP.

I know the .257 wby mag is a great caliber, my issue is ".257" not ".277 or .284 or even .30"

maybe its just me, but I wouldn't want to use 80-120gr bullets on an elk or moose.

But on the flip side they are FAST and do hit hard... good luck and shoot safe!

P.S. Pm me a review of your S2 as I'm looking at one in .300 win mag.
