Evening all,

I'll be posted to NC for the next month or so and thought about finally hunting some feral pig (wild hogs). They're considered pests and as such can be killed year long. I already have my form 6, an Alaskan hunting permit, and will get a North Carolina non resident one just to be sure. Already checked with the ATF and homeland security about keeping the firearms on my form 6 with me in the US for the duration of my stay and got the ok from both of them in writing.

But, the only 2 platforms I can bring with me on this hunt, if I do decide to do it, is an AR or my 870. The others are either underpowered (22 LRs), too precious to me (father in laws Enfield he fought the Germans with and brought back), or illegal in the US (Norc M14). I'm bringing my 1911 to strap to my hip because.....well.....because I can.

It's legal to shoot the piggies with an AR in NC, but would this be the best option? And if so, do I stay with the 55gr projectiles or go up to something heavier? Alternatively, I could bring the 870 and some slugs and/or 00 or #4 buck and have at it.

What do you all think?
