Hunting fit

I think I am pretty active for my age... but I just got a new pup who needs 3 hours of exercise a day... and I am getting killed. I lost seven pounds in two weeks just running the dog.
My theory is as long as your good looking nothing else matters.

I love to eat food and drink beer. I also love to hike and hunt the back country so I always try to stay in shape.:D I do 100 situps and 50 pushups every morning five days a week plus I ride a mountian bike during the spring and summer and then my fall activities take over from there.
A knee injury has forced me to wear a brace when I go into the back country and at the end of the day it starts to dig into my leg. I have felt like throwing the bloody thing away many times but then how the hell do I get out of the bush.

Try 2 pups   We got two dogs late last year. A one year old escape artist shepherd type long legged bad ass criminal, and a Akita cross pup. If I don't take these f##kers for at least two good bush walks a day we pay for it!! They tear up the house, yard and anything else they can if I don't keep them somewhat tired!

And, guess what. Ol Salty can get up the hills a little easier I'm down to 200 lbs. I was 188 lbs in high school and I'm 45 now and feel pretty dang good at this weight. Gotta quit smoking tho.

I have a desk job and a wife that loves to bake. Deadly combo not to mention work late and eat just before bed. Gained 40lbs since I was married 9yrs ago. Got to get off my ass this year as well. The extra weight is killing me. 215lbs is too much for me, need to slim down to 185 or so.

I'm now 43 and facin gthis issue. I am about 25 lbs heavier than when I got married 20 years ago. Back then I played sports ll the time, ate like a bear, drank lots of beer. I now have a desk job, generally only eat a big meal at night(plus snacks during the day), don't drink much, the knee I injured in High School now bothers me way more than it did when i was younger and stronger.
I must admit the whole getting in better shape now is something i think about more and more, but is intimiating. I don't hunt sheep, nor do I expect to, but I like to walk in the fall, the last few years hunting has only been a few days at a time. My plan is to improve my diet(already started) start the walking thing(jogging is murder on my knees) and use a stairmaster my wife bought. Hopefully my overall fitness will improve, and I might even lose a little weight in the process.
The last few years I have found myself questioning my mortality more and more, I guess a sign of age.

Age, 58...had to quit my 2x/week hockey this year after knee surgery in late December, but it could turn out OK, as I've been doing about a 4 mile vigorous walk Mon.-Fri. for the last 4 or 5 weeks. Feeling better, and recently moved the belt in a notch. Weight has always been a bit of struggle. I am able to moderate the beer without too much trouble, but eating the right foods, and limiting portions is another story entirely. Recent success with the walking has me thinking about the gym...not really my thing, but retirement could turn a guy into a Fat Albert pretty fast if he wasn't careful, and that would take a lot of the fun out of hunting.

Walking is a good thing.
Stay away from all that processed crap so called food!!!
I walk whenever I can , can carry a 24 home ( 4 blocks from here);) Grocery's, I will fill a knapsack and carry a few bags ... all good for strenght, ect.!
I tried the gym a few times... just not for me!
All in all, I am in great shape for my age ;)
