I’m on the hunt for a new pair of chest waders to use waterfowl hunting. I’m in Nova Scotia and it seems like the only places that have them available are Canadian tire and bass pro. Do y’all have any recommendations on brands, stores, deals, websites, etc… I’d like to keep it under $400. When I used to do a lot of fly fishing the neoprene sock was the go to, is it the same in for the hunting waders?

Cabela’s SuperMag II 1600-Gram Waders – 3 Seasons In

I’ve been running the Cabela’s SuperMag II 1600-gram chest waders for three full seasons now, mostly for waterfowl hunts, and they’ve held up really well. They’re warm as hell and completely waterproof, which is exactly what you want for those late-season hunts

That said, they don’t breathe at all, so if you’re doing a lot of walking or setting decoys early in the season, you’ll definitely sweat. They’re also pretty heavy, but the tradeoff is solid durability and insulation.

I’d give them a 4/5 rating overall — they do the job and keep me dry, but comfort could be better. I hang mine in the garage between hunts and off-season to prevent any creases or damage, and so far they’ve stayed in great shape.

From what I’ve read in other reviews, some guys have had issues with leaks, so it sounds like quality control might be hit or miss. Just a heads-up if you’re thinking about picking up a pair.

I bought Tidewe waders off that interweb thingy for waterfowling in temps at freezing . They are great. Available in a couple of different weights which is actually just more or less insulation in the boot. Fit was pretty much as advertised. We ended up buying pairs for a few family members who hunt as well.

Check these out for under $200. I have a pair and reviewed them on the ad, read the reviews to make sure you order the proper size. I am.pleased with mine.

I have a bunch of 8fans gear, it's all well made and works for me. I am finding that almost all of the Cabela's gear is turning into krap, with their 1200 gm insulated rubber boots tearing and splitting after only a few hunts, I am certainly buying less of their gear and the less expensive gear from Amazon is holding up better.

As someone else mentioned, see if TIDWE gear on Amazon has anything that will work for you. Their rubber hunting boots I bought outlasted Cabela's and are still going strong.

Neoprene of course, for waterfowling. We fly fishermen used to say they were a cruel joke marketing had played on us due to their excessive warmth for most of the year, but in the fall when ice is forming it's another story. Of course you know if one is not built in to get a chest belt to keep the water from rushing in if you slip and go too deep. It used to be said that flooded waders would pull you under but an expert told me it was really hypothermia that was killing the old timey folks and personal testing (in warm water) showed me it might be damn hard to get back into a boat, but not if a chest belt is deployed.

The Cabelas 5 mm was the way to go 20 years ago but who knows what they are peddling now. They were a step down from the SuperMags but much lighter and durable enough to last me for 20 years and still going. The trick is to stuff them full of news paper in the off season to ensure they are dry and not folded.

It seems everything is coming from the same place so from trail cameras to decoys I am mostly buying from Amazon. I just got a neoprene dog vest for one of the hounds and it was 1/5 the price of the Basspro model and I think better quality. It was BassDash branded. They have waders as well and the Tidewe seem to get good reviews. Nice thing about Amazon is easy returns. They have a drop off location right up the road.

Roll them down as far as you can before putting your feet in, then roll them back up. My dad used to do that while sitting in a chair to start.
Oh I can get them on easy enough. Coming off is a race against time. My body is telling my brain I have to pee in 3,2,1…
