Hunting gloves

The ones I have are actually sold as flyfishing gloves, and though not evident in the photo, the thumb is can be exposed. Mine have been submerged in a stream and were dry 20 minutes later. You need to get the type of material like polar fleece or equivalent fabric that suits the purpose and the temp rating. These ones have no blood flow restriction in my experience.

This is a better image that shows the neoprene hands, and the thumb opening.

Now those look like the ticket. I have had some similar to them, except without the neoprene palm. Pm me as to where you got them thanks

Teaching outdoor survival for years, i learned fast that there is no such thing as warm clothing . no clothing will make you warm, the warmth comes from keeping your radiant heat close to your body. then its also important to keep that air somewhat circulating to wick away moisture from the skin while retaining most of the heat. rubber gloves will cause your hands to sweat and this can be a problem. keeping hands warm was always a pain in the arse since if your fingers are separated in a glove it keeps them colder. your fingers are designed to be together and work as one slab of meat to put it bluntly, this is why mitts seem warmer than gloves. my secret for backwoods was wool socks over some good mitts with a breathable glove underneath. but with shooting your best option is the half gloves with some mitts over them for easy access to shooting. keep the wool socks around your neck to keep your neck warm then when you stop for a breather put the socks over your mitts . youll look like a weirdo but a warm weirdo
hope this helps as i wish i knew it long ago

I've sworn-off the petrochem fleece and plastic gortex liners. Despite the marketing hype, the gortex and fleece do not, IMO, breath like natural products. Why all the venting, if gortex breathes so well?

It's all wool for me, including boiled wool mittens. Plus, it doesn't burn easily around the campfire.

The best gloves I have found for hunting are ragwool with a thinsulate lining. However I have never found gloves to keep your hands absolutly warm like mittens do.

I take one pair of leather mitts with (hmm I don't know what I would call the lining) I'll call it thick fuzzy white stuff that resembles wool but is from a fake sheep for every day I'll be out.

$8 a pair and work great

When its time to shoot, the right mitt is off in a flash.

Those $.60 shake'em for heat hand warmers work really well if you are riding or sitting in sub weather.

I usually wear a pair of wool "stretchy" gloves under a pair of xxl mitts with the nose wiper on the back. If its really cold I use those hand warmer things (like a tea bag) in the mitt. I'd have to agree, wool is definitely the warmest.

Cabela's goretex thinsulate gloves - the best you can get. Yes, they are more expensive but they are by far the best I have ever worn. I too had trouble with gloves never keeping my hands warm, but these really work, and they are 100% waterproof. This season, when I got them, I went duck hunting and we were breaking through ice in our waders and I could stick my hand underwater to grab ducks from the ice water and no water gets in, very warm and comfortable soft fabric on the inside. The trigger finger is really nice b/c you can easily fit it in the trigger guard yet it is 100% waterproof also, like the rest of the glove. And I really like the leather palms. But yes, they are the best quality gloves I have found so far..... I highly reccomend them.

I totally agree with the wool-is-best theory. The Goretex high-dollar wonder gloves don't breathe worth a damn and my hands always wind up damp and cold. Wool mitts (the kind with the fold back cover over the fingers) work like a charm. In really bitter cold the thin polyester liner gloves (maybe 5-10 bucks a pair) are great under the mitts.
