Hunting guns and skeet

And for anyone thinking "I can't shoot skeet or trap because I don't have a skeet or trap gun", that's completely false and a dedicated gun is definitely not required. On that note, it's quite comical when the purists/elitists with fancy shooting gear bust out their $5-10k guns and you do better with your hunting gun that's likely worth less than the case they put their valuable guns in!

I've met people who haven't tried skeet simply because someone at the range told them there's no point in even attempting the sport with their hunting guns. Nonsense!

Great idea Brybenn, but it's a bit too far for me driving nearly 2 hours one way.

Exactly why i want to host something like this

Haha. You are right. Cold AND the wind was howling.

Are you thinking sometime in January or further out?

Totally depends on the number of interested parties. I got a few local boys and hopefully a lady or to that want to come out as well.
If the interest supports it we can do multiple dates as well

We had a fellow show up to shoot skeet with a 14" barreled tactical style gun yesterday. The recoil was fairly harsh after a couple of rounds, and it was loud, but he had fun. But he also realized that he could enjoy the sport a lot more if he had a more suitable shotgun, more suitable as in much longer barrel, not necessarily a dedicated clays gun. As to the guys with the dedicated clays guns not shooting as well as the guys with hunting guns, it does happen, we had one member with matching highly engraved/nice wood K-20/ and K-80, that never shot the higher scores at my club, but at both clubs that I shoot at now, the people shooting the highest scores, do shoot dedicated clays shotguns.

I'm surprised your club allows the short barreled shotguns. The club I attend restricts the barrel length to 26”. Man that would have been brutal on the ears

Nothing is brutal on the ears when you're wearing proper hearing protection.

It was his first time at skeet, and he kept raising one muff to ask questions and hear the answers. We did our best to remind him to put his muff back down, but he did fire a few shots with his muff not in position, because nobody noticed. I am sure his ear was ringing a bit afterward.

We are a small club, and are pretty informal. The only line that we drew was when someone wanted to use a handgun shooting 410 , and that was because the skeet range is not approved for restricted firearms. The truth be told, we will never have our skeet range approved for restricted firearms, even if the CFO was willing.

Would be held in blenhiem ontario. Between windsor and london about 7 minutes off the 401. No date has been set but i was thinking end of march or early april. Slightly better weather and an excuse to get out of house work for a day.

It was -19 with a 35 km wind when I went out this morning. Patrick's (VictoryXC) idea of a perfect day for a fun shoot! Bwahahahaha!

I'm in....I've got friends in Erieau.

Thanks. Will be watching for updates. I'm from Windsor, so just a short drive down the hiway.

Hey all. Im trying to gauge interest in a shooting event to maybe get some more shooters to experience skeet shooting whether new or experienced.
Im willing to set up a day at my local club for a or possibly multiple events if theres enough interest
My club is rondeau rod and gun in blenhiem ont. Between windsor and london.
As most skeet shooters have dedicated skeet guns and already shoot id like to try to tailor something for those who want to try skeet but never have or dont know anyone to go with. Like a hunter style class with sxs or pumps and semis. All would be welcome however

Several members here put on a great event focusing on sxs guns but not to many members from the south western tip could make it. It is a hike but well worth it. On that note we down here in the southern tip are rich with duck hunters. Now im completely new to organizing events but i love skeet shooting and love shotguns and im in a position that allows me to open that to others if interested
If anyone is interested or have ideas and suggestions by all means comment

Ive placed this here and not in the skeet and trap forum as im trying to appeal to non clay game shooters. All are welcome
I dont have a set date i figure ill leave it up to majority of interested parties to help select a date that works for as many as possible

We shoot 5 stand on wed nights through the summer. Don't keep score, bring whatever you want to shoot. Some guys are good, some are not. Visitors are welcome. All have fun and is well attended.

I shoot a 30" Citori with SK/IC tubes. I suck at it, but it has improved my upland shooting in the fall.
