Hunting holidays

I'm planning to book off 2 weeks for hunting this fall, for moose and elk in Alberta. I figure I'll take single days and weekends to chase deer and bear...

Which 2 weeks would you take, either back to back, or more likely, 1 and 1 with some time in between? When are the best times for calling Moose and Elk?

call moose last week in Sept till about Oct 4 depending on weather....if around Sept 20 you are getting some good frosts in the morning (maybe two or three in a row) Id say that usually kicks the rut into gear.

Id split up the week hunts a bit. sept 25-oct1 then go in November for a week and track them in the snow.
Elk call in mid to late Sept depending on the weather.

booking time off now would be an error. if you can wait till pretty much the last minute, that would be best. Keep an eye on the weather. otherwise the moose will start rutting on day 6 of your 7 day hunt and you can get screwed.

Personally Id take two weeks for moose and the following year take two weeks for elk. They overlap rut a bit and you might be trying to do too much all at once

where I hunt the season opens for moose on 1 Nov, so thats when I take my 2 weeks. Before that I do a few day hunts for deer but no real serious hunting till 1 Nov
