So....... I would like to try hunting in Alberta sometime in the future for mulies/whitetails. But the thing is , I live in BC. Who can fill me in on what need to do to make this happen??

You need to hire a guide or have a friend sign you up as a hunter host. You'll need about $100+ for your tag plus other items like a WIN card and Wildlife certificate. The best thing you can do is to call Alberta Fish & Wildlife and ask them for all the details.

About $180 all in these days, if you can find a hunter host.

This "hunter host" thing, the person has to be a hunter? and do I purchase a hunting licence or does the WIN card and Wildlife certificate act as such??
I have relatives in Leduc, would that work?

Hey Cole the host has to be a hunter also you need his name and win card number. You also need a win card good for 5 years is 8 bucks then you need hunter host licence 27 bucks then wildlife certificate 28.22 deer are 122.23 moose & elk 135.31 you can also hunt other thing look up regs at http://srd.alberta.ca/ good luck this season hope this helps cheers Andy

Sorry, short for time yesterday.

You need to get a WIN number (Hunters #) first on which you will sign a declaration that you are eligible to hunt. Then your host has to buy their "Hunter Host" with your WIN # attached, then you can buy your Wildlife Certificate (Hunting License), Deer License (Deer Tag), etc.

Your host has to be eligible to hunt, meaning they have a WIN # and Wildlife Cert. (IIRC), and they must accompany you while hunting, OR they can escort you to a blind or stand (where you will stay), and then come escort you back at the end of the day. No wandering around by yourself.

The resident who hosts you is allowed to host a max. of 2 non-residents per year.

The terminology is different between the provinces, but the requirements are pretty much the same.

"The resident who hosts you is allowed to host a max. of 2 non-residents per year."

Every second year actually, I've done it a few times now. Friends from England, Italy, and Nebraska. - dan

Those are non-resident aliens. You can host two non-residents every year.

From the regs...

A Hunter Host

Must be an adult resident, and be eligible to hold recreational hunting licences.
Must be the holder of a valid WIN and Hunter Host Licence (below).
may not provide services for gain or reward, or accept remuneration, directly or indirectly, for such services.
may host a maximum of two (2) hunters/year, either Non-residents (Canadian), Non-resident Aliens or a combination thereof. If hosting 2 Non-resident Aliens, at least 1 must be a relative.
may host Non-resident Aliens only if the host has not hosted a Non-resident Alien in the previous two (2) fiscal years (April 1 to March 31).
must report to the Fish and Wildlife Division by December 31 in the year of harvest, all hunting activities by the Non-resident Aliens he or she hosted.
must accompany the hunter(s) named on his or her Hunter Host Licence while they are hunting big game under the authority of the Hunter Host Licence.
