Hi, i am just recently got into the whole hunting thing.
Just wondering if you guys have any recommendations for good hunting spots in the BC area, I live in Vancouver. Looking at Deer, Elk, Moose spots mainly, perhaps Black Bear.
Thanks guys.

There's TONS of opportunity within 1.5 hrs of Vancouver. But it's like anything else, a learning curve. Check out huntingbc.ca it's all we BS about!!!!

Good post being a relative noob myself, I went all the way to williams lake for my first buck last season. But I'll have to check out this huntingbc website.

HMMM,
There's TONS of opportunity within 1.5 hrs of Vancouver.

this would be good info:D

The hills either side of the toll plaza on the Coq. are two hours from the LM and there's a world of hunting on either side.

Two tips, MAPS, GOOGLE EARTH!!!

Pemeberton's nice but a big hairy guy some of know tells me there's not deer there :bsFlag: :bsFlag:

Without a doubt, you will be able to hunt north of the fraser above places like mission to maple ridge. Do some hunting around for good maps and do some back country driving on your days off!

Good luck!

Ya, i heard about Pemberton, but get mixed reports from everyone, some say good, others say there's nothing. Guess it all depends on when you go.
I was thinking of goign up that way, or back up to Cache Creek area, i know a couple of places around there.
I heard there's a place in Boston Bar, anyone know whereabouts?
Just got google earth, so gonna take a look, perhaps next time i'm at a book store, get myself one of those backroad map books.
Thanks to all

I don't know where you'd go in the mission/maple ridge area, not really any good spots to go as far as i can see. But maybe i just don't know the right spots yet.

The elk, moose, bears, caribou, wolves, mtn goats, Stone sheep, whitetails and mule deer have all left the north Peace and now reside in the Vanderhoof area. Really. I wouldn't BS ya ;) :D

You have to go through Boston Bar to get to Cache Creek if you coming from the Valley. Lots of mountain around there though.

I remember when I first moved to Vancouver from the Island in 1986 and didn't have a clue where to try hunting on the mainland.

Pre-Internet, I burned a lot of gas trying places like Harrison, Skagit, Chehalis, Chilliwack, with no luck, ranging farther and farther in my little Toyota and later Datsun station wagon. Didn't know many hunters and those I did went way "north" for moose, something I wasn't ready for. Finally got a tip to go to Pemberton and shocked the #### out of my wife and kid one day arriving home with deer tied to the roof rack. They logged, bombed and blasted my spot up there though.

You have got some good tips already.

Deer populations are at extremely high levels on both sides of the Fraser River from about Cache Creek all the way to Quesnel now so haunt huntingbc and huntshoot for more info.

One week to get your LEH cards in. If you get 'em and fill 'em out at Reliable they are couriering them to Victoria for you.

I used to live in Delta, and did alot of 4wheeling up Harrison and area and never seen much game. Pemberton is still good from what my buddy tells me, up the Coq on either side but dude you get alot of traffic up there, I liked going east of Manning park to Princeton, and the ever popular 100 MI house and north. You want to hunt locally, get a bow, and the special permit and deer hunt in Burns Bog...There are some quite nice looking mulies in there, and black bear.

Well thanks all for your opinions. Now just have to wait the 3 more months left until hunting season =( Gonna try for my first deer in cache creek area. Hoping for all the best :)
