Hunting in Eastern Europe

Hey all! This is my first official post on this forum. So my question is, does anyone have any experience with hunting in Eastern Europe? I've been offered a boar hunting trip to either Poland ochg Hungary within this year. This will be my hunt abroad. Does anyone have any valuable tips on regulations, climate etc in either country? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am looking forward to contributing to this community more in the future.

welcome here.

hunting in Eastern Europe can be interesting but can be just a waste of money .... there is some places where they released pigs and not wild boar.

if the district you re hunting in Poland is not hunted that much by other tourists it can be one of your best hunting experience.

high seat hunting during a full moon can be really so good, drucken or small push by beaters and dogs and of course the big driven one .. where all the voices coming from the dogs and beaters ....

different ways of hunting.

Hungary i cant say for hunting but i ve been enough to say again if it s a commercial hunting forget it.

all i can say that is a different way if hunting with traditions and spirit.

depending on the game you ll need 7mm or 6.5 at least.
in Poland if it is not for stalking your scope need to be at mini a 2.5x power.

I've hunted in Hungary and the former Yugoslavia a total of 4 times. I am not sure about the "released pigs" as I never had that experience - I suppose, just like everything, you need to do your research. In Yugoslavia I hunted for boar along the Danube North of Vukovar and not too far from Osijek. I also hunted Roe deer between Senta and Ada, which is about 1 hour south of the Hungarian border. In Hungary I hunted boar in an area about 45 minutes East of Lake Balaton. Those areas were all good. If you want I can get some contact info for you for a fellow in Serbia who used to have a a lodge and has hunted all over Eastern Europe.

I should add that winter is a great time for boar - especially with snow on the ground and around a full moon. This gives you better opportunities to spot and shoot them at night from a stand. I have shot a boar at night with no snow on the ground and it was a bit difficult, seeing as I am not used to shooting game at night!

I used a .243 Win, 8x57JS and 8x68S on my hunts.

I used a .243 Win, 8x57JS and 8x68S on my hunts.

Use at least 7x57, better jet 308, 30-06 or 8x57 with heavy for caliber bullets for "driven" kind of hunt. For night hunting from stand you can use lesser calibres but scope with red dot will help you a lot in accurate aiming. I hunted boars in Poland many times and killed three of them the biggest being 375lbs or so live weight. There could be very cold winter nights on the stand in Poland. Hungary winter hunts would be much, much more preferable but boars in Poland tend to be little bigger so it's a wash.
