Hunting in Louisiana/East Texas

I have a meeting to attend in early December in New Orleans and thought about arriving a few days before to do some hunting. Anyone have experience in the south? Pretty sure gator is closed at that time. Should I rent a car and head to east Texas for javelina or maybe a mule deer hunt?

Any ideas or outfitter recommendations are appreciated. I am open to almost anything.

As far as TX goes, there is essentially NO public land in TX, it is all privately owned. So if you want to hunt you will need to do some prep work arranging to lease some land or get trespass rights for a couple days for a fee or use an outfitter or whatever you want, just be advised you will not be able to "go for a walk in the country and go hunting" like you can on Crown land in ON.

If you were planning to take a rifle you need to apply to the BATF and get a Form 6NIA completed. Which means you need to buy a license to hunt first, since a copy has to be submitted.

I doubt I'd just go for a stroll, as it were. It would be a guided hunt and could be gun or bow.

Early December and Louisiana would be begging for some waterfowl hunting if it was me ideally flooded timber. As far as outfitters go, I'll let you make your own decisions since I don't have any first hand experience.
