Hunting in Medicine Hat

Seriously; don't worry about the snakes, they'll all be denned up sleeping by Rifle season. Bow season is only gonna be dangerous if you are hunting near a river as they'll be heading home for winter.
And 308 is about right IMO... and nope, I don't have one ( perturbs me when folks pump up a caliber because they own one... means more when they give it a thumbs up just because it's good)

Fair enough, that being said we like to go on a lot of walks so it might not be the worst investment in the world.

I looked at the drop on 308 and 270 and just didn't see much difference at all up to 400m. 6.5x55 does quite a bit better and 7mm Rem Mag definitely is a 400m calibre with great ballistics but ultimately not enough there to convince me to drop a lot of money on an expensive calibre.

6.5 x 55 is a family favourite. Reaches out real nice, but doesn't tear the meat up like a Magnum.
In the 115 or so years here one family member has been bitten by a Rattler... my mother, 4 years ago. It wasn't really that big of a deal, she went in, spend the next 24 hours ( in Emerg waiting room for 2 ) in ICU. Then home... no biggy... and I'm scared sh*tless of snakes LoL. They are more scared of you than you of them... or so they say.

You didn’t tell him about the Black Widows and Fiddlebacks.... lol.

My sister lives in Redcliff right on the top of the valley. She found a black widow in her garden last September, she’s also had a few rattlers on her front step.

I do have a couple 6.5x55s, truly a fantastic calibre

The rattlers are because she's right on the river...where they den. Go 5 miles from the river...precious few snakes.
Black widows... I find them a bit tart, just a hint of sweetness. Fiddlebacks... you have to pretty unlucky to even see one. My chickens freerange and eat them all LoL

In case it wasn’t already mentioned- you can apply for the whitetail draw in Saskatchewan as well, seeing as you’re only a half hour drive from the border. You have till the end of May to apply.
