anyone in ottawa going hunting for ANYTHING (ducks, upland, or deer) who wants to have a new guy tag along?

i have a Benelli Nova and she wants to see some field time too!!

while your at the MNR get an "eastern ontario outdoor recreation map"
it has all the crown land spots and is rather handy. marlborough forest has a good selection of grouse, deer and small game. i usualy g othere for small game but will also be going there for some deer day trips this season

Great country, some huge deer around Gracefield, friend got a dandy back quite a few years ago, 326 lbs dressed, huge rack.
Only the problem for many is price of permit for no resident's, just got mine yesterday almost $250.

wow guys

i really apppreciate all the pointers and suggestions

i have been hunting pheasant in the past, and am fairly experienced with my shotgun, so Im no newb so the outdoor world

but it is kind of overwhelming trying to just head out to the field for your first time without having any direction

hope to see you all out in the field

Manitou210, yeah i know about the price for the non-resident is very high. I have brought it up a few times at the outfitters meetings and at the regional wildlife council but there does not seem to be too much chance of getting the price down, but we will keep on trying. My nephew shot a 17pt non-typical that went 330 last year here on my 200acres just north of Maniwaki, made a beautiful mount. Muzzleloader season is on now to wednesday then rifle opens on saturday so we are kinda hoping that the weather gets better next weekend, lots of deer around the stands so we should have a good hunt.

Matt, i am sure that you will enjoy getting out there and spending a bit of time in the woods, small towns always have a general store, restaurant,or popular gathering place and that is always a good place to inquire about hunting spots, meet local land owners who would let you hunt their places or just get pointers on where to go. good luck. Any chance that Quebec will expand on its " party hunting" rule in the coming years? I see that they are allowing it in "certain" situations only. For us quebec land owning - but non residents, it would be nice to be able to hunt the entire quebec season with our buddies on our own 250 acres of property.

lildave,

Right now it is only allowed on outfitters exclusive territories or other controlled access areas along with the sharing of doe tags, as far as the general hunt it is not in the cards as of yet, but maybe if they see that it has a positive impact on controlled areas there might be hope for the future. I will have to bring it up at the next wildlife council next month if it could be expanded to private land owners, wont know unless we try. They might go for limited numbers per 50 acres owned, or something of the sort or maybe not either, but its worth a try. If you have a suggestion on this, email me or send me a pm

Hey Signguy,

I hunt marlborough once in a while for grouse, but haven't hunted deer there.

Is there alot of deer hunters there?
