Can anyone here share any hunting experience in the QEWII park?
I was just up there and it looks somewhat quiet (at least on the north side). I had a chance to talk to one guy who lives there and he said there was good bear and moose hunting and that it was pretty easy to get a tag. However he also said that MNR and OPP are constantly on his property patrolling for offenders (his advice was not to mess around).

I should be able to get access from Black River Road and walk in (or get an ATV permit). The terrain is a bit rough but that is half the fun.
Does anyone already do this and is it competitive during bear and deer season?
 
Sounds like you might have made a contact already.
If the OPP and MNR are on his property you might just have found a honey hole.
You ask him about hunting on his land?
Other than that I got nothing from the West Coast to help you out.

I expect it would be a busy place during deer & moose season, not so much for bear, but you never know who might have baits out. There are crown camps on almost every sizeable stretch of crown land north of the Kawarthas. There's no "easy" moose tags anywhere south of the French River.
 
Moose tags are next to impossible in WMU 56. Hunted there the last couple of years. No tags filled at our camp. It's well hunted land with nuisance Jeep treckers that come in daily disturbing the peace without Orange.

If you use any of our stands or happen to find any stand in the woods
1 - don't damage or steal it
2 - if you climb it's at your risk try not to fall out
3 - that's pretty much it
 
I used to hunt there about 15 years ago and agree with philhut it's well hunted. At one time there were alot of deer and a solid population of grouse not so much now. I was last there two years ago walked all day and flushed one grouse. Saw very little deer sign.
 
I hunt deer and bear there from time to time. It is well hunted, there are a number of established camps. It is doable though.
 
I can echo the availability of tags, we hunt just north of there, in 56, and we went four years with no tags.
Moose can be hit and miss, they seem to move through. Some years you see lots, some years none.
Small game and deer are plentiful where we are, but we are a long ways back from the road.
Terrain is indeed rough. The year before last I parted a ball joint on my ATV while hunting alone. It can be hard on equipment.
Bears, lots of bears, they break into the camp closest to ours, make a hell of a mess. The boys armored the door and put spikes in front of it, so the bear tore the siding off and went in through the wall. Nothing in there for him but a bit of flour. Must have been left over cooking smells.
They are closer to the outside world than us, we have not been broken into in about 20 years.

I was talking to a guy who wanted to sell me his property. So I'm fact checking here.
And I don't know what a honey hole is....maybe an outhouse?

Thanks to everyone for the comments. I'll go research the availability of tags for this WMU. It's a bit close to Toronto so if I would not be surprised if it's hunted out. And I read that there is a proposal to ban atv's and hunting in this provincial park so it might be a dead end.
