Hello everyone! I'm quite new to this forum and to hunting actually and i'm pretty impressed with the vast amount of information i've learned from most posts. But to get to the point, being as i'm new to hunting, i really don't know anyone that has their own land to let me use, so i've heard theres a map that you can purchase showing you all the the different crown land that is allowed to be hunted in. Is there such a map??? Or any other way to find out where i can hunt??? I haven't worked up the courage to go banging on doors so i thought this way might be a little easier.

Any help would be absolutely appreciated!

My opinion, get out there and knock on doors. SW Ontario Crown land is few and far between, and is highly over used, for just the reasons that you have stated. What WMU's are you planning to hunt, and what do you want to hunt. Maybe some good Gunnuter would be willing to take you for a hunt to get started, possibly getting some opportunities that you wouldn't otherwise get. Tell us more about yourself. I would be more than happy to show a newbie the ropes.

Oh, and get ready for a lot of rejection. My advice is to be polite and courteous, no matter what, maybe leave some sort of card or resume with the land owners, you never know, if you leave a good impression, you might get a call back latter. Also, offering to help out around the property might sweeten the pot.

Thanks for the info 7.62mm. I kinda figured there wasn't much crown land around, but i had to try. Since i'm new to the sport and hunting, that might be why i'm a little nervous about knocking on someones door. Kinda like asking a girl out for the first time! LOL Hard to take rejection! Anyway, a little about myself. My names Mike and i'm from the Woodstock area. I just got into guns and hunting about a year ago, after shooting my brothers Remington 700 in a 30.06 caliber. So of course i went out and pretty much bought the same one. Not a very good idea, because as i said i'm new, and using a 30 caliber gun is useless around here for anything but paper targets and hunting up north. So, instead of wasting money on ammo and such, especially for just target shooting, i went out and bought a Savage MarkII BV 22lr. Now i can hunt small game, and shoot targets without having to spend to much.

But like you said, guess i gotta get out there and present myself in a decent way, and maybe someone will let me get out and use there land. Fortunately i don't mind a little farm work, so i may just offer my services just to sweeten the deal.

You might want to invest in a shotgun, lots more opportunity for game around here, like Turkey, Waterfowl, Deer, Rabbits etc.. If you are willing to do some deer hunting, a bow is a real must have for SW Ontario, as the Archery season is quite long. If you manage to get a shotgun, and want to try turkey hunting, let me know when the season gets closer, and I would be willing to have you along for a hunt or two, I am just outside of London.

Oh wow! Thanks for the offer!! Speaking of Turkey, i just took the course about a month ago in Tillsonburg, so needless to say i'm quite anxious to get in the field. A shotgun is definitely my next purchase. In fact i got my eye on the Mossburg 535 ATS 3 barrel combo. Supposed to be an excellent entry level pump action and very versitile to boot. I'm just waiting on Eley's to get them in (should be this week or the next). So if your serious about showing me the ropes, i know i would have a great time and would be thankful for the opportunity. Now all i need (besides my next toy) would be a some camo. Shouldn't be a big deal.

Gylar! If you are in the Tillsonburg /Simcoe area there is huntable County Forest. St Williams for instance. Try a search on the Longpoint Conservation Area website and you may finds some spots. Keep your head low as I bet they are busy;)

PERFECT! Thats exactly what i was talking about...! My friend had showed me a map just like that one, and i didn't get the opportunity to photo copy it. I figured theres gotta be somewhere i can buy one, or view it at least on the internet. Thanks once again grnhawg!

Most appreciated.

BTW i'll make sure to stay "low" and maybe dress up all in orange just to be on the safe side.

Gylar - I assume that you drive. Further to what have already been suggested....you may also wish to check out Hullet Marsh (Clinton, ON) during open season.

There is both Upland (Pheasants) and Waterfowl hunting to be had there.

Obviously, a shotgun is a requirement. Believe the area also allows Archery and Muzzle Loader (can't remember if Shotgun too) for Deer.

For bird hunting, the use of a dog is best. However, don't let the absence of one (as in my case as well) deter you. Walking in that place for a few hours is good for both spirit and body :). Besides, you always get to meet other hunters.

For more info you may visit - www.hullettmarsh.org - and of course all regulations pertinent to Hunting apply in full :)

Thanks Ahsan Ahmed, the suggestions are great. In my case, i do drive and i also have two 3 year old Golden Retrievers that i would love to see in action. (there untrained) But thats ok.. its a good way to get the dogs running around and hopefully they might just help me flush something...

Oh BTW, just checked out that web site for Hullet Marsh.... so far pretty interesting, i think i would really enjoy some pheasant hunting and such. Thanks for the tips!
