Who here hunts the unforgiving lands and waters...

Not the farm plot or the fenced in quarter section by the #2 hiway, but the places where nature can eat you and spit you out if she so desires...

What do you hunt bthere, why do you like it?

I used to head into the mountains more often then I do now. I have to take it pretty easy and now stick to fairly nice paths and trails. I have bad knee's and going up isn't the problem, It's coming down that does it to me. I look for lots of critters, but I'm a small game hunter at heart. I like hunting mountain grouse and fishing the small lakes. I do it because nothing says your alive and God is wonderful like a Morning surrounded by everything out there.

I have hunted the mountains my whole life. My first BH sheep trip was with my parents when I was six months old. I will continue to do so until my body wont allow me to do so anymore.

Cripes, the way things are going right now that might be this year :bangHead:

I just feel at home in the woods... I wasn't born with access to the Western Mountains, but quickly grew comfortable and at home in them when I first lived in the rockies back in 95"

The mountains are the Crazy Daveys, or Chuck Nelsons, etc etc homes.. I certainly do enjoy them, and have spent my share in them, (even guided believe it or not) but even now, they are your guys , not mine..

I feel most comfortable where there are creeks and rivers, tundra and brush, and if possible the ocean. I just feel at complete peace there.

I breathe in so deeply,..I take notice of everything... the smell is intoxicating.. my rifle like an old friend..

god bless the outdoors

YA-HA-TINDA Ranch anyone?
I've spend my fair share of time west of the Trunk Road and west of Sundre especially. I've never shot anything huge there but have many fond memories there and God willing many more to come. When I was younger I appreciated the outdoors but the outing was a success if something was in the back of the truck on the way home, WOW how things change. Hunting now is about the trip and not the destination. I digress.

I really take the " places where nature can eat you and spit you out if she so desires...
" comment to heart as there have been a few times where Mother Nature let me know who was really boss.
I figure it really doesn't matter whether you live in Cornerbrook, Cornwall, Saskatoon or Saanich, there is something outdoors that one can appreciate everywhere and its that appreciation that keeps bringing us back year after year.
I love everything about the outdoors and intend to instill that appreciation and respect in my kids.
I love Canada,
Ivo

It is because of what is there and equally about what isn't. It is because today it can make you feel acutely alive and tomorrow kill you as dead as a stone.

~80% of my hunting has been in the foothills of Alberta. It's where I feel at home. I do occasionally hunt dear further east, (near Paintearth) but find the terrain boring.

Yes I hunt the Mountain of Vancouver Island for the hardest deer hunting in Canada
The mighty Black Tail .These deer are small compared to others in Canada and very smart
And hide in the tough brush and south facing slopes of the Mountains of Vancouver Island
I’m sure others that have hunted the hills will agree to be successful you need to be skilled
To be successful year after year .But I know hunters that have been dam lucky once and awhile .
