hunting in the rain

Geese hunting is best during rainy or cloudy weather for me. They tend to stay on the ground or fly low as apparently they actually need to see the ground to navigate.

i see more critters and catch more fish when it's raining out. the excuses that fish dont bite during wet weather and deer hide while its raining are usually used by folks that dont like getting wet. ;)

wind is a much bigger factor than rain...

The Worst bear hunting you can have is in a cold rain. For all the time i spend working and hunting in the bush I could count on one hand the number of bears I have seen walking around in a bitter cold rain. My theory is that like a dog, their fur gets soaked through and allows water to reach their skin very easily. They are then more likely to hunker down, curl up and keep warm, just like a dog.

I have to agree with the same here in Ontario with Black Bears. When it rains they don't tend to move. I hunt the rain all the time and never see bear action if it is raining ....

Light rain helps mask the sound of your movements. It also washes your sent out of the air.deer seem to move about the same in light rain. Cold or moderate/heavy rain accompanied by gusting wind sends them to deep cover. Deer seem to move a little less in moderate rain and will hang out under cover of pine, spruce, cedar, hemlock trees. Use the stalk and stop method keeping your eyes peeled for deer bedded or standing under overhead cover. Because they can't hear or smell very well their eyes will be peeled so yours need be too.

In a light rain or light snowfall, the hunting can be exceptional, plus it is usually quiet to move around.
Heavier rains make most animals hole up, at least temporarily, [rut excepted!]
I also hunt in a moderate wind, but in a real blow, I stay at home.

I have no issue hunting in the rain EXCEPT with the bow - I will not bowhunt if it's raining or obvious it's going to rain in the next couple hours - I won't chance losing a bloodtrail if I'm fortunate enough to connect (and I never head into the woods expecting anything otherwise).
