Hey guys,

Alright so I'm posting this here because I have tones of utility and EDC knifes. I need a hunting knife for processing game lol my 12" Ka-Bar Fightjng knife might work for killing a bear or dropping a tree on his head but processing not a chance.

I am partial to Ka-Bar and Tops (price and quality line up in my opinion). Looking for under $200 and mainly Deer, Bear, Turkey (used my folder last time messy) and some small game. Please toss out options but also reasoning or even just features to look for and more importantly avoid.

Kydex sheath is a bonus as is gunfighter belt clip.

Need to get something ordered by the end of the weekend.

Thanks as always!

For opening up a big game animal the Outdoor edge swing blade is hard to beat. Awesome to split the hide up the legs on a whitetail when skining. The blade side is a bit larger than required for deer but one awesome tool for after the kill .

As for butchering I bought a decent butcher kit with various knife sizes. Much better than using a gutting/skining knife to try getting the job done with. Outdoor edge make a decent butcher kit I think I bought the cheaper Eastman one.

I use and have good luck with Fin Pukko style knives. They come in all lengths but usually have a traditional leather sheath and birch handles. They stay sharp and get VERY sharp. My large Pukko will gut and quarter a moose with no touch ups and its size makes for easy work.

I know outfitters that use Mora knives, I haven't used a Swing-blade but can see where they would work well. I like Kershaw and have cleaned and skinned mule deer with my Blur. Pick what you like and go with it, keep it sharp and strop it often.

Have to agree buck knives are pretty decent. Maybe get yourself a gut hook for opening them up. For the actual butchering work I use kitchen knives. My favourite are boning knives.

60-80$ depending where you find em. Imo the best knife I've ever used for game

Grohmann. Made right in my hometown of Pictou Nova Scotia. Amazing knives. Have been using them since I was only enough to have a knife and will always use them. Awesome knives.

Also you can buy their "seconds" for usually 50%off regular price. There might be a small mark in the handle you won't even see but they discount them.

Grohmann sadly aren't a good knife. I wanted to love them and tried them three times. Between grip scale issues and questionable steel I won't go back.

If you're serious about a hunting knife get a Havalon and a bunch of blades. You'll see them carried by just about any guide out west who has to cut up and cape out more than a few animals a year.

I've tried a lot of knives, and what it boils down to, for dressing game, is a Cold Steel Pendleton hunter, and a thin bladed Mora carving knife. If you're on a tight budget a couple of Moras would be hard to beat.

I have one of those also, just far from an all around knife if one finds themselves in a situation where you need too put any muscle behind it. My hunting knife is used on more than game, my grohmann I find superior to any buck or the like in any steel under sv30, which for me I find also lends to easy field touch ups. For the money they're a great value, but like you say, if it fits it really fits. If it doesn't probably really doesn't. For much else besides fine slicing they leave a bit too be desired. They're nicer than Olfa blades for similar tasks into though and make a great supplemental knife that weighs next to nothing to keep in the pack.
