Just a quick question

Do you require a Canadian hunting Outdoor Card to hunt in the States or can a person just purchase a permit for whatever State he or she wants and hunt

Same question for other parts of the world like South Africa.

Do other countries even recognize our Outdoor Card

IIRC when I used to go to Ohio to hunt deer at my buddies farm (before CFIA closed big game coming from Ohio) I had to have a Hunting license/card from 'somewhere'. This was to ensure you had passed at least the minimums to hunt in your home Province/State. It was a lot easier than I had figured it was going to be. As for anywhere else I am not sure as I have only hunted Ohio.

I do plan on getting my card, in fact it will be from the same 2 gents that tought me my RPAL

I have never hunted before but always wanted to, now in my early 50s :( lol I think its time to do just that.

I have been watching the wild network, Jim Shockey and others and I must admit I feel like jumping through the TV right into that Big Game hunt in South Africa

Anyway I have been wondering if they even care if you have a card other than here in Canada
 
Not sure what a Canadian outdoor hunting card is but some states do require that you have proof of hunter safety training and others don't. It's a state by state thing. I've never heard of a need anywhere outside of North America.
 
Welcome to the ranks and "better late than never" cetainly applies.
No African country I have hunted or any other contry anywhere I've hunted, has been the slightest bit interested in proficiency. Primarily the interest is focused on money, African countries have far more pressing concerns, like who is planning the next "coup-de-tate".
Hunting foreign countries is almost exclusively done through the services of an outfitter/PH and as far as most Gov'ts are concernd, they are resposible for you. They take care of all arrangements and gun permits and red tape (usually) , and you just follow their instructions during planning then show up and go hunting.
Some European countries do have proficiency requirements but these must be done "in country" prior to you being allowed to go affield, even with a guide.
 
Depends on the State. Most states you just buy a lic. Some (Colorado) require you to provide proof you have taken a Hunter Safety & Education course.

Best is to look up the Dept of Nat Res or Game & Fish dept for the state you are planning to go to. Then you know for sure what you need.

There are some quirky rules, for example (and this is deer hunting only):
You can't hunt in PA with a Semi, only a manually operated firearm (Pump/bolt/lever)
In Ohio you can't use a rifle unless it is chambered for a pistol cartridge (ex - .357, 44)
As mentioned, in CO you need to prove Hunter education course
Most states do not allow party hunting like there is in ONT, so once you tag out you are done hunting unless you buy a 2nd tag (lots of states allow that)
In NB you must take your deer to a check station ASAP, same for MI

And you probably will see a CO, so it's best to know the rules. Most states have all the information on the state Game & Fish page.
 
Ya, Nevada won't even allow you to apply for tags without proof of a hunter safety coursse. California is that way too.
 
Thanks for the info guys, appreciate it. Im going to try and line up a course in August, September at the latest. I know July is sold out
