Hunting likely a no go for me this year.

Bit of an update. I did go to a chiropractor a couple of times. I went back to the doctor and insisted on a better X-ray. That showed some nearly flattened disc right at the bottom plus a couple other things. Was referred to a second physio. He called for an MRI. Turns out that there is or are arthritic lesion(s) causing rubbing on a nerve. He referred me to a surgeon. Now time will tell if I get an appointment with him or die of old age first.

I wish you luck in this potential major procedure you are facing. Neuropathic pain is not something that can really be dealt with sufficiently with opioids or neuro blockers. Our public system is your main issue here. Being trapped on the waiting list is the worst thing ever for people experiencing life limitations. Best thing to do is be very proactive in your referrals, miss nothing and ask to be placed on every waiting list or standby for any and all cancellations for an appointment with a Neuro-Surgeon. Things you can do to potentially speed up that referral while scheming the system may get you more prompt services. Go to an ER acting ignorant to everything but that you have had back issue for a long time....report wetting the bed, difficulty swallowing or breathing or pins and needles to certain limbs or areas, or constipation along with head aches and body weakness..... sometimes one referral will trump another.

I feel there is really a place for nursing in health care to start its own patient advisory branch similar to the model of X-copper whereby they can supervise care for families that can not be present or want additional knowledge to understand the process. Know one in the government or hospital truly works for the patient in the current system as the employer is the hospital or government not the patient. Most patient advocates while their job is patient advocacy draw their paychecks from the hospital or workplace so their is only so much advocacy that occurs. It is a shame but our country currently practises statistical medicine instead of patient focused medicine and care.

:(. Rough job at best, always turning, turning, turning, looking back, bouncing around. Our job is working up sloughs, breaking, ruts, and alkali spots. Last week I was working up a little slough, going about 8 mph (usually going around 9.5mph). I was looking back to see the job I was making and hit the grandfather of all ruts left by another implement. It was like a bomb went off in the cab.

In regulated industry safety regulations would prohibit that type of abuse. Unless you have operated machinery like that you have no idea the types of shock that is imparted on the spine. Young men would end up injured let alone us old guys !

Brother, slow the fug down and smell the roses. You have earned it. At least get them to let you operate on smooth ground. Being crippled, like in a wheelchair is one of my worst fears.

I've been down that trail and they didn't do anything for me but prescribe more drugs, and now they don't want to give them to me anymore...
MRI took forever to get in and they just confirmed the smashed discs and spinal stenosis etc etc. Head Neurologist at RUH poked needles with wire hanging off them into me from my foot all the way up to my lower back, says "yup you got a pinched nerve in yer back" sent a report off to my Dr.and nothing.
I hope you get a fix done because I live with this sh1t every day and wouldn't wish it on anyone. Tried to do a little shed hunting today but the sciatica is like I have a hunting knife jammed into my arse cheek and I can't feel my foot.

best of luck to you kjohn, old age ain't for pussies...

As a guy that used to run a crematorium, I got to see some of the stuff they put in peoples bodies.
I don't know how much pain you are in, but be sure if you elect to go through the surgery you get to see exactly what they are going to do to you. When you hold one in your hand and look at it, it may make the pain you have more tolerable. There are a variety of implants they use some are fairly benign others look like torture devices.
Be informed before you take the plunge.
I've had chronic back pain for twenty years or more, along with sciatica for the last few. Chiropractor looked at my Xray and says "nope, can't help you" So far I'll take the pills.

This is horrible, dangerous advice. I’ve heard some sketchy recommendations on CGN but this is quite possibly the worst yet.

You must be proactive. Had four replacements and fifth is pending. Always ready with blood tests up to date, x-rays current, etc. Check with OR booking, always pleasant and always just checking to see how things are going. Never a nuisance, mind you, that is critical. The people who do the scheduling have seen and heard it all. Showed you are prepared and you will likely get bumped up as people are always cancelling. Good luck, so far my back is holding up, I ruined everything else, but the back is good.

And yet, its unfortunately true. Family doctors give the same advice....and it got me an appointment with a neurologist 11 months sooner

Farming is already over regulated.

Well, survived another Spring running big tractors. There is one good thing, that being I can bounce around all day in a tractor and things aren't going to get any worse because of that. Walking any distance, or worse, standing still, is what bothers me the most. When I go to bed, I have to force myself to lay still, then the discomfort goes away.

I am camped at a farm yard in my trailer, all set to shoot gophers for a few days now. I have a little chair I can carry with me to sit down. I have usually just gone down on my right knee and used my left knee to rest my left elbow on to shoot. I learned (the hard way) to wear my work boots for this method, as I sort of sit on my right heel. Works good for me!

I just finished seeding yesterday myself. I’m surprised at the number of gophers in my area, I’d guess the population has tripled from last year.

The antelope are everywhere this year as well, good to see their numbers back up to where they were 10 years ago. I’m seeing more mulies and whitetail than in the past few years also.

hopefully, everybody is all healed up and ready for the new hunting season.

nope...…

I'm still trying to make all the plans even though finding reliable hunting partners seems to be plaguing me lately.....
maybe it's because I'm too broken for people to want to hunt with me anymore LOL
Truthfully, my hunting partner lost his wife to cancer last year and him and his boys were our hunting crew and it's hard to blame them for not being reliable hunting partners. Pretty much been a write off making any plans with them.
Got 2 MRI's scheduled in Kamloops sept 7th so will know my fate.
My dear wife is going to be my hunting partner this year and will make sure I get one more season in anyways.
just gonna have to do more fishin in my tinboat I guess ;)

Another hip surgery planned for me Sept. 5th, hopefully for the last time. If it goes well I can still be ready for November but bow hunting will be a no go.

Well I’m out no hunting this year , gonna be three months from now for recovery
I’ve battling with sciatic nerve problems ever since a guy pulled out in front of me on the highway,
Finally got sick of doctors telling me to keep taking drugs, and deal with the pain, and needles just covering up the underlying problem.
Researched a bit and found Phoenix joint and spine , in Arizona discussed the problem and sent mri down to them, they required me to send them some extension and flexion xrays also , depending on the they may not do it if they believe it would not work.
Then got another X-ray and mri down in Scottsdale Arizona the day before surgery on Sunday .
The had two operations planned depending on out come , did one on Monday, then decided with the way my pain ways that needed to do second one on Thursday, lumbar disectomy two different spots.
Now done I feel a lot better than I have in a long time, have been walking way better with less pain
Will be 3 month recovery by slowly walking and 1 exercise the later I can exercise some more

Might get down to the US for a quick bow hunt with my best hunting buddy but that will be about it. Have a 4yr old and a 6 month old so not much time for it. Wife and kids are going to Australia for 8 weeks this winter and I’m joining for last two so should be able to do some ice fishing/coyote hunting while they’re away.

got my mri results..... worse news than I wanted to hear.
full disability for me from here on out.
WCB kicked me to the curb after a 5 year battle and now I have full evidence that they outright lied.
off to the neurosurgeon but I've already been told there is nothing they can do that won't risk paralyzing my legs.
"take it easy the doctor says..... no lifting..... and more important... no falling or tripping"

great I say.... I guess that means no hunting either eh?
he kinda gave me a dumb look and didn't reply LOL

Has anyone heard of some study going on Vancouver area where they were working on synthetic / plastic discs for neck and spine ?
