I stumbled onto this site a few weeks ago when looking into spear hunting boar (sadly seems like you need to do this in the US if anyone else is interested). Anyways its a international group of hunters thats practice hunting as people did in the middle ages. May seem a little geeky to some but personally I think its pretty interesting and would be a great challange. They only use period correct weapons and dress the part as well. Props goes out to these guys...lots of research and commitment required to do this. Anyways check it out....

Just be prepared for the boar to run up the spear and have a good go at you just like they did back then! Anyone who hunted boar with a spear in those days had some very serious scars and stories to go with them.

The C.A. guys would probably love this. On a related note, I had a chance to do the hound/pig/knife thing in South America but ran out of time. I've got some pictures of century old sticking knives somewhere.

Some recreat, some never stopped.

We had a guy in our region who wanted to hunt polar bear with a spear and dogs ... I for one would have supported him in doing so ... as I too want to spear something in the wild ... such as a bear or a boar ... but that's just me! :D Needless to say the gov't wouldn't allow such a hunt.

there've got to be easier and more original ways to commit suicide

A man with a spear is pretty much invincable as long as he holds on to it and the prey does'nt have a projectile weapon.

Pretty neat website, love the falconry aspect. Interesting spears one style seems to preclude deep penetration? Guess that is so you son't run the boar through and end up too close.

Well you can always put some kind of "hilt" on your spear to stop it going all the way to you once you've speared it

I suppose that is why the new and improved butt out tool has a hilt now, I guess some fellas just don't know when to stop and were going way too far:eek:
