Hello,

Below messeges and replies was for newfoundland, but now switching for info on hunting moose in New Brunswick...
So proceed to reply for New Brunswick..
Thanks..

My hunting group is considering hunting in New Brunswick, and was hoping for feedback from locals on out of province rules, etc...
Also, if any areas they can suggest to go, where there are some trails, etc... and not completely hard to scout for hunting spots for newbies to the area.

I'm sure you guys don't want everyone coming out your way, but I'm told there's plenty of moose to go around there and shouldn't be a problem ?

I'm willing to join any groups that need a few more guys, but one of my guys is iffy on joining guys you don't know, as well as you'll likely be the same...

But open to discussion. We've been hunting for many years and are not new and not wreckless drunks, etc.... We hunt serious and are good easy going guys...and like to have some fun too.

Any ipsc shooters in NFLD or NB may have met me at ontarios provincials,or nationals or at Summer Slam in Dalhousie...

any info can be sent here or PM me.

It is my understanding that out of province hunters must use the services of a guide/outfitter. I could be wrong though. Ggoogle Hunting Newfoundland.

You need a guide or outfitter to hunt big game if you are a non resident.

Check out the Newfoundland Gov website..

www.env.gov.nl.ca/env/wildlife/hunting/nonres.html

I was born there but still have to play by the non resident rules now that I live away.

There are plenty of outfitters and LOTS and LOTS of BIG FU*KING moose in NL. People are friendly and the province is fu*king beautiful.

I'll be moving home soon as the gf is done her Masters degree.

I was moose hunting this year with my bother......For 15 minutes.... seriously that's how long we hunted, turned of the highway drove for 15 minutes and saw a big cow stopped the truck my brother walked to the side of the road upped his BLR and shot it in the Head...done. Kinda disappointing really I like getting out for a nice hike... Anyways home by lunch with our feet up having a cup of tea with a 90 pound a quarter cow hung up and ready for the butcher.

Newfoundland is one word by the way.

Don't worry about shooting one of the moose on the island good for tourism and that is one less moose that is going walk out in front of some poor persons car on the TCH

I wish you the best of luck on your NL hunt, but you won't need it, and you will come back.

I grew up there. I shot a calf moose once there. I shot it in the head.

You are correct and in my opinion that is the way it should be. Beaming in out of no where from out of province can end your hunt very quickly if you happen to pick the wrong location.
My last moose hunt there with an outfitter lasted all of 22 minutes. 4 hours on ATV to get the camp next morning seen like 5 moose in 2 hours.

I've been there on two hunts, and yes, need a licensed guide/outfitter and I believe there is a requirement on the number of hunters a guide can have, ie: you can't have 5 hunters for one guide...

Most hunts there will run you $4-$6000 per hunter, depending on where you go and how you get there. All hunters get an adult tag. PM me if you want more info.

$4 - $6,000 ???!!! HOLY COW MAN !!! our trip in Ontario cause of camping ourselves, etc... costs us each under $500
Well, so much for that Idea !! Even if we can leave with 2 monster bulls.. And I love hunting, but it's not worth that much to me.. I can use $1000 and just buy lots of Filet Mignon and take a vacation for the balance amount to europe.. or buy more Toys :D
Thanks for the info guys...

ps. you sure there's no other way ? the force you to pay such $$ to a private company ? or is it Provincial agency ?

Do they atleast have a hooker bring you breakfast in bed :D:D:D

its vast land, do you have to do the fly in thing, maybe cheaper with other outfitter where you just drive and stay in dirty cabin ?

$500.00 to hunt moose :confused:best say in Ontario . You cannot hunt a goose for that down here. My trips were around 3500 to NL.
Other ways for 500, road kill:D

Get urself a out fitter its the law and u are better of anyway. Try the northern #####ula of newfoundland if u want big bulls lots of moose and out fitters. There are hunts there u can do without flying in and there alot of very long wood cutting operation roads they travel by truck and quad. Cant comment on a price but if u call a few places there im sure ull find a good price. There are other guides operating around the gander area of Newfoundland but cant comment on were they go or if they still operate

Ontario is no different. Non-Residents must use a licensed outfitter for bear and moose, and they don't do it for free here either. Only difference is an outfitter here might only get 1 tag for a group of 4, in nfld everyone in the group gets an adult tag.

Nfld residents can hunt for the cost of their license.

The ferry fees alone were $900 for two trucks and 5 guys. ($450 each way). Gas was around $1500. Butchering was $0.55/lb (~$1250 for 5 moose). There's $3200 and haven't paid the outfitter yet. (~$3500 each). In total it cost about $22000 for 5 of us to drive down and shoot 5 moose.

I'm switching to ask about newbrunswick now.. I believe they're stricter there on #of tags and stuff...

Give you points for trying but I cannot say you are not giving me a good laugh today.
There are probally thousands of residents in NB waiting some 20 years for a tag. You can enter your name in for a non resident draw, I forget a couple hundred tags a year . We have been putting in from the start ( 6 of us) for the non res ones and never a tag. Plus still going to cost you a three grand plus.
I will answer nova scotia for you now no you cannot apply, only resident and I am over 24 years applying with zero nothing.
I have hunted them in Ontario and that by far was the cheapest. You can always go by yourself I think still to quebec ( been years for us so that may be different also now) but I am not sure if you will come back at least if you have the experience we did and I have heard many do..
Take care
I am sure some NB members will chime in soon to correct me if I am wrong.

not sure if you were replying to me with what you found, but I wanted to know where it say's a non resident for Ontario needs a guide/outfitter, I know that NL requires it, but was not aware that ON does

if your response was not to me, my apologies

It's all under the moose regulations, under the Non-resident section...http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/stdprodconsume/groups/lr/@mnr/@fw/documents/document/239848.pdf

A non-resident who wishes to hunt moose in Ontario must
have valid hunting accreditation and be a registered guest
and actually accommodated at a tourist establishment. The
outfitter must apply for and receive, on the non-resident’s
behalf, a validation tag to hunt moose

Non-resident moose hunters may hunt
moose in WMUs 7B, 9B, 11A, 11B, 12B, 13 and 14 only
by hunting through a tourist outfitter or by hunting
with an immediate relative (as defined above) who is an
Ontario resident licensed to hunt moose. Non-resident
landowners are not eligible to moose hunt in these units.

There are 2 exceptions, one is if you are hunting with an Immediate relative (ie. brother or father) who is an licensed Ontario resident. The second is if you are a non-resident landowner, however they can't put in for the adult draw and there are other stipulations...

If you think NFLD is expensive, good luck in NB. Still need a guide, have to draw a tag, and the moose season is only 3 days, and I believe only the guy that draws the tag hunts, ie: no group hunting. New Brunswick Non-Resident Moose Regs

Even Residents take 15-20 years to draw a tag...

New Brunswick Non-Resident Important Facts:

All non-resident hunters are required to hunt with a licenced guide.

A 2012 Moose Licence is valid to harvest one moose of either ### during the open season beginning Thursday, September 27, 2012 to and including Saturday, September 29, 2012.

A non-refundable application fee of $40.96 ($26.25 plus a $10.00 Conservation Fee and applicable tax) Canadian Funds will be charged to your credit card.

If you are successful in the draw, you may purchase your licence, using your credit card (Total charge $619.24 CDN including 13% tax

Far cheaper and easier to get tags in Ontario for you, and the season is 2.5 months. In quebec, there are areas you can buy tags over the counter. 1 tag for 2 hunters, plus around $250 for a non-res license.

You can apply for a non resident moose tag and are allowed 2 hunters per liscence here in N-B
so if you have a group of lets say 6 guys you each apply for a tag chances are one of you might get one .

I know the season is only 3 days but in my area 3 days is lots to get a moose there are a lot around here.

Let me know if you are interessted in applying for a tag I also know a few guides tha can set you up.
