Hi fellow CGN,

I wanted to send out this message to get some of your valued opinions, I've been living in the North Bay,Ont. most of my life and basically getting fustrated in spending the $ and time towards Moose Hunting and not getting any Adult Moose Tags so I'm looking at doing some Moose Hunting in the Lake Kipawa,Lake Beauchene Quebec area and was wondering if there was a high population of Moose, success rate and high hunter population. At this time I'm looking at the area east of Lake Beauchene. Its to bad as I will be leaving a great Hunting area in Ontario.

I may be in the market for a waterfront Camp or lot if anyone has one availble.

Thanks and have a nice Summer :) :)

not exactly sure where Beauchene is but my family has hunted Lake Kippawa in the Hunter's point region for ages have had a lot of success. I cant comment on the what the hunter concentration will be, it all depends on the accessibility.

What road are you accessing from ? Are you in the ZEC ?

We have been hunting on and around Kipawa lake since the 60's. Moose populations went down drastically in the 90's, but are on the rebound. Just our camp brought out about 70 moose in the past 40 or so years.

Up until a few years ago, seeing another hunter or any signs of civilization were not likely, but new logging roads and logging operations have opened up the area enough that it is becoming more accessible. It's still not an area to set up a moose outfitter though, as filling your tag is not even close to being a guarantee these days.

Thanks for reply,

The area that I'm presently looking at is south east of Lac Beauchene, west of Lac Memewin, Qc which is north of Matawa,Ontario. Planning on going out to the area this weekend to investigate, hopefully there isn't to much logging in that area.

I've been 2 out of the last 3 moose seasons and we paid $290 for a tag. I think it is a small price to pay for an adult tag considering the amount of loot we all spend on gear and shooting every year. Good luck, wish I was going.
