I have had my firearms for a couple years now and all i have really done is target shooting. I decided that I would like to try hunting moose . How exactly do I get the moose hunting license. I heard something about a draw before....can anyone give me some detail on this..like where to apply etc.?

Are you not guaranteed a tag of some kind in NB? Here you can be years and years waiting for a Bull or Cow tag, but every hunter who wants one can buy a Calf tag for $30.

No and no and NB is the most backward province/state of any in North America when it comes to our BS moose draw.I've been advocating a priority system for years that just falls on deaf ears.It sucks!I've been an avid hunter for 30+ years, most of that in Nb,,,have had moose tag TWICE!My old man just got drawn in '08 for the 1ST TIME EVER at 63years old after working his whole life, paying taxes, and retiring in NB.I know other guys that have been drawn 3 times in 5 years and some two years in a row.....DON"T GET ME GOING ON THIS!

A few years ago(2004?) they came out with an A,B,and C pool for hunters that haven't been drawn in 12+years,6-11years,and 5 or less respectively.....but it still SUCKS!!

NBDNR needs to step up into the 21st century.

just an idea, move to BC and put in for you leh here. If you are a first year hunter you are pretty much garanteed a draw. I've been hunting about 16 years and have got at least 5 draws. not to bad one every three years. again just an idea.

I applied last year for the first time in the moose draw.

I figure if I put aside $50 a year every year for a moose rifle, by the time I get drawn I should have enough for a very very nice moose cannon! ;) I don't expect to get drawn for years, but if I never apply I'll never get in.

Shouldn't cost much to move from NB to BC. LOL

When did BC change to preference points? When I lived there they did not have preference points and I know my dad had been putting in for cow moose for about 12 years and has never drawn.

Alberta has preference points and so does Manitoba. Not sure on Sask.

The saddest thing about NB is you can't draw a tag but you can always go to any reservation and buy moose meat for a buck/lb cut&wrapped....or even better, just trade even for beer and save'em the trip to the liquor store.

Sounds like that $50/year could pile up enough to buy you a guided moose hunt here before you get drawn as a resident hunter there. Or to really save time and money, join the CF or the Mounties, get posted here, and hunt as a resident, then quit and move back to N.B.

I heard that NB is bad and so is ontario. i know guys who've been applying for 25 years and havn't recieved a tag yet. i think our MNR should look into that preference point system because i know guys who've quit hunting moose because the tag system is so f*cked. even worse are the guys who say "f*ck it, i'm just gonna shoot one without a tag and risk it!" but i can't say that i don't have a little bit of simpathy for those guys. I've been applying for the better part of a decade now and have yet to draw a tag. Morals alone keep me from killing moose when i don't have a tag but some guys don't care anymore.

take a drive to Quebec, no draw and no guide, however it is 2 tags per moose, way cheaper to hunt with a resident.
