Hunting on train tracks?

Keep off the tracks.
My dad use to walk his dog down the tracks out to my place. During his final walk to my place he collapsed from a heart attack on the tracks. The end result is obvious.
I had the chance to speak to the conductor the day it happened and the poor guy was a total wreck. I felt terrible for him but nothing could be said or done to change anything. It was not his fault in any way. I would really like to speak with him again some day and see how he is doing.
Stay off the tracks and keep everyone safe because its not just you that will be adversely affected.

Ha, the deer seem to be smart enough to not get hit in this area. Wouldn't be walking much on the tracks but was thinking of setting up a stand....found some awesome game trails crossing the tracks the last time out. Had 8 mulies cross in 1 1/2 hours, mulie heaven!

Late season archery starts on the 1st. :)

I've walked miles and miles on them tracks with me ole pah hunting chukars.
Never give it a second thought.
Now crossing the river use to git me pulse going.
Them railway police, they eat donuts too?
Meeeander up the hills.

geebus, more than 1/2 of the river fishin spots I frequent involve crossing rail ...... I take my chances..... but then again, the stupid gene seems to have skipped me so getting smoked by a train would be low on my list of concerns LOL there is a safe way to do anything. Now discharging a firearm on the rail right of way.... pretty sure that's illegal all around so will pass on that one..... there's lots of good places to hunt and I'm sure those who ride the rail don't appreciate the idea of hunters shooting in their work space.

Its funny you can tell the guys that have worked around trains and the people that have no clue.

I used to think like many of you, I am smart enough, I will hear it, they are big and loud, I will see it.

You wont.

And just because you dont see the engine does not mean it is not moving towards you, and quickly.

Try the island tracks on vancouver island, you will only see a few folks and def. no trains - except for the track trooper wannabes in the converted Fords....

Seems like the train doesn't travel thru NS anymore really. Alot of the tracks were converted to walking/ snowmobile, ATV tracks.

yep, they picked up all the RR ties and rails all the way to up north to the dead end at big lake this past summer. I think the groomer will be running on the old rail bed this winter instead in the hwy ditch.

Yup.... I've seen the aftermath of a person vs train collision more than a few times..... looks much like a couple packs of thawed hamburger thrown about...

What do you do when you meet the train and need to touch the wheel lol. throw it reverse, floor it,match the speed best you can, thrower in neutral and cross your fingers? :p

I can't answer that, it didn't happen, thank goodness! My guess would be to crank the wheel, as you put the hammer down, pray it doesn't hang up and there isn't a step ditch right there!
