Hunting optic with mil/moa real reticle?

It would seem to me that there is a huge gap in hunting rifle optics. If you're looking for a tactical scope, you have many choices of reticles, be it MIL or MOA of the various manufacturers design. The same can't be said for hunting scopes. I don't want a bullet drop reticle - I want a real reticle with MIL or MOA graduations so I can use calculated hold overs, but I don't want a heavy, high magnification, illuminated bells and whistles scope with huge turrets.

If I could find a scope that was 2.5-10 (or 3-9, or 4.5-14...) x40/50mm, FFP, no parallax adjustment, no illumination, capped turrets, clear optics and light enough weight with a MIL reticle - it would be easy to choose. The scope should be simple to use and characterized by what it DOESN'T have more than what it does.

I can't seem to find such a thing.

Is there no market for a usable hunting focused scope with a full reticle?

If you don't mind a MOA reticle, 32mm objective and parallax adjustment check out the Vortex Viper HS-LR 2.5-10x32.

I've got one on my wolf hunting rifle and it is great. Only 16.8 oz.

The reticle is not useable at 2.5 power. But you have the thick outer lines to use for quick shots.

At about 5 power you can see the 4 MOA lines pretty good and at 7+ its perfectly useable.

But thats how FFP tends to work. Unless it has a very small power range.

I picked up a Bushnell Elite Long Range Hunter recently: LRHS 3-12x 44mm
I have yet to test it out on a rifle but the glass seems great! It will end up on one of my hunting rifles, I am thinking my 25-06.
Specs below:

First focal plane G2H reticle allows for ranging at any magnification
RevLimiter™ zero stop on elevation turret allows instant return to zero
30mm tube for increased adjustment travel
Target-style elevation turret and resettable, capped windage turret
RainGuard HD lens coatings
Fully multi-coated optics
Ultra Wide Band lens coatings
Side parallax adjustment
2” Sunshade


I think it is going to be a great hunting glass!
 
Sure it exists, I will trade you my S&B 3-12 for your 5-25. It's shorter, lighter and acquires deer faster:d

x2 for the Bushnell LRHS.. The G2H reticle is perfect. The 2 mil circle is a must for down at 3x.
Waiting for the 4.5-18x44. Supposed to be available in Canada by May with a choice of a MIL or MOA G2H reticle.

With my experience with the G2H reticle, I need the ring feature at 3x. I can easily & quickly make use of the reticle for holdovers down to about 5x. Anything lower mag than that I have trouble making use of the reticle.
I was told on another thread the Vortex PST with the EBR1 reticle is a better choice. I finally got to look through a Vortex PST recently and that just reaffirmed my opinion I bought the better scope for the application. The Bushnell LRHS. With the low profile turrets & reticle, it's a scope for a hunting rifle. Only missing illumination.
Omer at Plainsight Solutions is where I have a 4.5-18x44 on order.

I have the same scope but its the PST 2.5-10x32 ffp. I used it all winter on my coyote rifle. The turrets were terrible, moved very easy and the power ring was very hard to turn in the cold. The glass was very clear and has a nice reticle. I wish I would have gone the route with no turrets, I would have been much happier.

Yeah I had a 4-16x44 HST on my wolf gun before the 2.5-10 and every time I would sling the rifle I would hear the turrets turn.

I have the same issue with the power ring. I'll send you a PM about my fix.

The reticle is completely usable at lower magnification thanks to the thick side posts and I am thoroughly impressed with the optical quality so far. I haven't mounted it yet and I'll have to do a more in depth review later, but first impressions are very good.

Bushnell has really stepped up their game, they have great prices, great glass, product is actually in stock most times and they have excellent reticles.
