Hunting pack suggestions

I think rookie needs a new scale! LOL

I'm sure there is the odd person in exceptional shape that could do it and that may be the case here but it's certainly not in the realm of 99.9% of us and I have found that most people do way over estimate the weight of a pack. It's humbling to actually put it on a scale. I won't call BS but...........

If you're actually hauling a 300 pound pack, good for you man that's an accomplishment to be proud of.

I haven't gotten into the realm of big packs yet, I just use my Mystery Ranch 3 Day Assault Pack most of the time. Usually for getting groceries these days. I plan to get into bike touring in the spring, so most of my stuff would be getting packed onto the bike itself or maybe a small trailer.

If you want a true 300 lb pack go for a trapper nelson - might as well have all the comfort in the world too...

LOL...not sure comfort and Trapper Nelson can be used in the same sentence but they were a workhorse for their time. Just looking at some of the old photos of guys with huge loads on them makes my back and shoulders ache. Some tough hombres back then! I've got a nice collection of old Trapper Nelson packs but I'm pretty content to have them as show pieces.

Not likely. 300 lbs is about the equivalent of a 3/4 full 45 gallon drum of water......strapped to your back.....walking up and down steep inclines. I don't think most realize how heavy an actual 300 lb weight is.

Didn't say it was common. In fact I think I used the figure of .1%; perhaps that is even high but to say no one could do it it pretty naive. There's some exceptionally strong humans around. But I'm sure if I said the sky was blue you'd feel the need to correct me ;)

What is yours?

not 300 lbs for sure lol .... but i carried full barrenground caribous (so not only one) in northern quebec after being gutted. and over 10 kms of tundra ... if my wife didnt witness it nobody s will believe it ... alive they are between 300 and 400 lbs.
and the other guides were splitting them in two ....
gutted i dont know but i wont do that with a no pack frame for sure ....

Am I stupid or has this lost something in translation?

As for 300 lbs on a backpack feel free to piggyback Dom Deluise up and down a mountain and see how that pans out!

Love the Trapper Nelson. Sometimes I'll load up the pack with a axe and a teapot, grab the 44-40 and go for a walk looking for rabbits.

i use an outdoorsmans optics hunter. for long trips i add the load pod and the muley pack. i drop my big pack at camp and use the muley for day hikes back and forth.

Pickles it was coming from this phrase ...``...But I'm sure if I said the sky was blue you'd feel the need to correct me ...``... of course with no context hard to follow ...

Exactly. I know a few guys who are just powerhouses. crazy_davey's dad being one of them. Not huge gym rat types, but guys with honest farm boy/life time guide muscle. In great shape... They wouldn't even joke about packing around 250-300 pounds.

This thread has gotten so obsurd. Borders on totally useless...
