Ok, so my hunting partner and I have a problem on the more of a positive note.

Here in Alberta, the deer hunting season is from Sep 1 to Nov 30. We both have the white tail deer tag and the supplemental white tail deer tags which allows us 3 deer each. We already have our 3 deer each and September is not over yet. So far we have dropped 2 bucks, 2 does and 2 fawns.

With our deer tags all filled, all we have left to shoot for the rest of the season is grouse. I know we could shoot bear, but we don't like the meat. Any opinions on what to go after for the next 2 and a bit months?

around edson and hinton you can get a general elk. I dont have the book near by, but Im pretty sure edson is a 3 point or larger and hinton is a 6point. Cows are a draw.

Elk meat is good stuff ! just be ready to either quarter it were it lays or pull it out with a quad. look at the atv rules as well tho, you can not drive one with a rifle so early in the morn and also so late at night.

good luck with ur hunt and good job !

My deer bow season won't start till friday.

Hope to have the same luck

Congrats

So, we actually considered the waterfoul thing too. When I lived in Ontario I shot lots of Canada geese and mallard ducks. I actually don't like the meat of those either. So, just like with the bear, we are not interested in shooting stuff unless we are going to actually eat it. I know some people shoot whatever that can just because they can, but it's not our style.

The simple solution is not to fill your deer tags so early.Be selective and try and shoot dry does for the supplemental tags, and hold out for a large buck for at least the first couple of months.
I could fill all of my tags on the first day of the season every year if I wanted to,but by being very selective,I can spend more time hunting.

I don't even shoot small 4 points so the odd year I don't shoot anything. Hunt for 20 more years, you'll figure it out.

Thats just funny. Too bad for you, oh mighty hunter of 20+ years! ;)

Some guys hunt for the meat as well as horns. Supplemental tags are only good for antlerless deer, so since he already got his buck, does and fawns are all he can go for.

I usually get a couple does each year as well. Fills the freezer.

kevguy, go for Elk!
Good luck!

Horns make them taste better?

I shoot my does and fawns early to put meat in the freezer. I hold off for a buck until the end of the year most times and then shoot whatever's legal. Funny thing is I find myself becoming a better hunter because I do shoot more deer.

Oh I know that pain....

I have settled on shooting only a big buck for my general tag and fawns on the suplemental tags, good eating :) Oh and if I go out early in the season I'm looking for bear too. There are open tags for mule deer too

Then I get an elk tag so I can keep hunting later in the season.
