'Hunting' reactive steel targets.

Mine is 1/4” mild steel, and stops cast bullets like nothing. With enough hits it starts to curl up a bit, which is easily fixed by turning it around. It’s only been flipped once in quite a few years though.

It is easy to move by throwing it on a sled trailer. A couple of strong guys can carry it a ways and hang it. When it got turned an enterprising friend clipped a vise-grip at the balance point, hooked up a come-along, spun it around and did up the chains again. Did it himself, sort of one of those work smarter not harder kind of things. :)

I also have been planning on making a big buffalo target for long range bpcr but the price of steel has kept me from doing so

What thickness & grade of steel did you use for your Buff. I have a piece of 5/16 mild steel that is 9 x 16 ft that I am contemplating cutting a life size buff out of it for just cast bullet (1600 fps max prob.)shooting at minimum of 700 yrds but hopefully 1/2 mile.

My original plan is to cut the thing into joinable sections of under 100 lbs each so it can be relocated easily by a couple people with a pick-up. I'm sure the slugs wont penetrate that thickness at that range but do you think they will pock mark it ??

I've got a bison target on my private range, which we only use for black powder with cast bullets. Right now its at 650 yards; but the plan is to take it out to 1/2 mile soon. First I have to load it up, haul it home and weld up 5 holes that some uninvited, trespassing slime-ball put in it after driving right up to it and shooting it with a centerfire of some description. Some peoples kids.

There is a bunch of us BPCR shooters here in Manitoba that are looking for a spot on private land to have a gong shoot ( sagebrush long shots style) we normally travel to Bethune Saskatchewan and Carberry Manitoba for BPCR Silhouette matches but the guys are getting older..
