Here's the situation. My friend hunts a controlled hunt in Southern Ontario in December.

I would like him to come and hunt my area (45) during regular gun season.

My understanding of the regs is....

I get him to apply for an antlerless tag in 45. If we get an antlerless deer in 45 and he uses use his tag, he can still hunt the controlled hunt in Southern Ontario as long as someone in the group he hunts with during the controlled hunt has a deer tag, correct?

Thanks

Yes. Also, some areas offer extra tags for the controlled hunts. If his area does, he could buy the extra tag and not worry about using his regular tag.

That's what I do. I also buy a couple of extras for the bow hunt as well.

Rifle hunt WMU 47 I apply for the Antlerless Draw here
Controlled Hunt WMU 85 Additionals will stipulate Antlered or Antlerless
Bow Hunt WMU 92 Antlerless only for this area for additionals

Correct so far.

He also has to apply for and get drawn for the controlled hunt, which is by no means a sure thing in all WMUs. Granted, most WMUs now have a 100% draw, but not all of them and this also varies by year. We did not get drawn for the controlled hunt in 69A a few years ago.........

Speaking with a local CO a month ago, there were less deer shot in this general area this year than has been the case, and so it is possible that extra tags may be cut back or discontinued in future years.

But anyways Bac your plan is sound.

Happy New Year!
