Slingshot even better.....An airgun would be another option, there are some good handguns available that shoot under 500 fps.

Anyone know, could you bring/use an 'Antique" handgun for the grouse?Pellet handguns under 500 FPS are legal for use in Ontario. They arent considered firearms (in this regard) and thus are fine.
Ever been questioned by authorities? This is true . Been carrying my Webly Tempest for decades .
No. Handguns of all types are illegal for use in hunting in Ontario.Anyone know, could you bring/use an 'Antique" handgun for the grouse?
not sure if it's greed or inexperience,Hi,
This is a question that seems to be in the gray area of the regs. From my understanding of the regs on the matter, I believe it would be lawful to carry a rifle for hunting moose and a shotgun for hunting grouse during the rifle moose season in Ontario but I'm curious what other people think or if anybody had this question answered by the ministry.
The regs state that only during the bow season it's illegal to carry a rifle or a shotgun.
Thanks!
Its called multitasking. If you can do it quietly, why not. Its neither greed or inexperience, just a different approach to yours. Neither is wrong. I've taken lots of grouse with a slingshot while big game hunting. I don't think any of them ever affected the big game part of my hunt.not sure if it's greed or inexperience,
but why would you shoot a grouse while hunting for moose ?
You sure? An antique handgun isn't legally a handgun... you CAN use pellet pistols to hunt in ON for the same reason/sNo. Handguns of all types are illegal for use in hunting in Ontario.
It is because even an antique centerfire/rimfire pistol/revolver qualifies as a firearm under The Firearms Act, the Criminal Code and the Fish & Wildlife Conservation Act where an air pistol/rifle that fires a projectile under 500fps does not.You sure? An antique handgun isn't legally a handgun... you CAN use pellet pistols to hunt in ON for the same reason/s
...I think trying to hit a grouse with an old antique handgun might be asking a little too much from one tho personally.
Another reason which I’ve experienced: if you’re hunting deer, birds will show up. If you’re hunting birds, deer will show up. If you’re hunting bear, every fur bearer available on a trap license will show up. ALL the animals have some sort of social media or forum to sabotage my adventures.not sure if it's greed or inexperience,
but why would you shoot a grouse while hunting for moose ?
Because I didn't want to start a whole new thread. You just brought back a thread buried 6 years from the dead.
My last grouse was taken with a Crosman 1322 that I got for christmas in 1976. New seals and 12 pumps.....look out!I have a Crossman co2 .22 that I carry in a shoulder holster to keep the gas tube warm that pops the heads off Grouse quickly and quietly. It's ideal while hunting Moose and Deer and 100% legal.
According to the MNR you can use Antique Handguns for hunting in Ontario.Anyone know, could you bring/use an 'Antique" handgun for the grouse?
That not quite correct.No. Handguns of all types are illegal for use in hunting in Ontario.
Learned something new today! That not quite correct.
In Ontario (not in BC though) one can hunt small game with an antique handgun. It wouldn’t be a good idea to be doing that while a large game season was open as a CO could assume you might use the handgun on the large game. I’ve verified this with a few CO’s and although they don’t like it, it’s not illegal.
Edit to say one especially shouldn’t be carrying an antique handgun when bow hunting large game as the rules don’t allow you to carry any other device to hunt other species while bow hunting large game. That’s an Ontario rule so don’t know about other provinces.
Small game and bears, coyotes, wolves, everything except moose, deer, and elk. That not quite correct.
