Can you hunt with a restricted rifle? Technically yes. You can use your AR15 to hunt. HOWEVER, it is illegal to do so without a valid ATT to transport the gun from your house to the outside of your house. As soon as you cross through the doorway you're commiting a crime. This is why the CFOs won't give blanket ATTs to transport your firearm anywhere in the Province. If they did that, then you could hunt with it.

Does that make it illegal to take my rifle from my house to my car when I'm loading up to go to the range?

So shoot from your living room out the patio doors?
That sounds even better, you could sit on the couch watching your favorite show and just pop every coyote that comes to your decoy or bait:) PERFECT

If you have an ATT to go to your range, then no, you're not breaking the law. The ATT doesn't stipulate how you get there, just that you take a direct route. Federal firearms laws indicate you are not allowed to shoot indoors. IIRC that was on the PAL test...

If they give a blank att for you to transport your restricted anywhere then it defeats the whole purpose of the ATT lol.
And you can gross your doorway with your restricted...or how can I bring my restricted from my house to the car?

How about the indoor shooting range?? Those are illegal?

I thought the only place restricted can be discharged is at a gun range.

As a matter of fact you can in Ontario...

if you don't care what the law is, why'd you ask. Go do it. Chances are you won't get caught. If you do, who cares? Another speeder off the road for the rest of us, and one less forum troll.

Nice. Boy that attitude sure contributes to responsible members of the firearms-enjoying community's lobby to get rid of some of the senseless regulations that prohibit us from small freedoms... Whose side are you on?

There are 2 ways to do things. Right way and the wrong way. I choose to follow the law and not loose my freedom so I can fight another day. Suggesting that its ok to do illegal acts because other wont know, on a gun forum, likely will not help change senseless regulations. "whose side are you on?" lol

What would you be charged with if your home is in a rural area where firearms may be discharged?

Alberta Hunting Regs: It is unlawful to discharge a weapon within 183 m (200 yards) or cause a projectile from a weapon to pass within 183 m (200 yards) of any occupied building.

If its you're home. I'd say its occupied. Can't speak for places outside of Ab though.

Stupid law or not, it's sill the law, and breaking it reflects poorly on law abiding gun owners as a whole. The media and popular voting opinion won't care if you weren't harming anyone. All they will see is a "scary rifle" being discharged where it shouldn't be by someone who is lisenced to own such a firearm. Someone who has taken a test to prove that they know such acts are illegal. They will then come to the conclusion that even lisenced gun owners can't be trusted to act within the laws of the land.

The building proximity regulation doesn't apply to buildings you own, have permission to shoot near, etc.

You can legally shoot from your house but not with a restricted firearm.

Why not with a restricted? Discharging a firearm is discharging a firearm. Only thing with a restricted is the ATT. Shooting off your deck attach to your rural house should be no issue because you havent left your dwelling
