Hunting rifle for beginer

What is your budget?.... If you want a bargain nasement rifle the Marlin XS7 is the bets of the bunch IMOP.... That being said, If I weere you I woul dget access to th eEE an dlook for a nice used rifle... Once you get into hunting you will want to keep the first rifle you ever hunted with... As for caliber others will weigh in here but I recommend .30-06....
There are any number of reasonably price rifles you could start out with, savage, ruger, remington, weatherby, the list goes on. Personaly i like savages for the money, brownings are great, but a little pricey, and lately i've been eyeing a weatherby.
It's just like ford vs chev vs dodge, they all go bang, so look for what looks nice to you, go to a store and try to hold them, geet a fel for what feels comfortable, and if you are a member any any ranges, try hanging out there on the weekends. Most people i run into at the range are excited to show and tell their new/favorite guns, so you can try a few out before buying.
As for calibers, the sky's the limit there.

For the reasons posed I'd recommend looking at a Ruger American or the Marlin xs line. Both less than 500, both should be accurate and if you want to upgrade down the road fairly easy to sell for little loss. I handled a Ruger American compact for the first time in a gun shop a week ago and in this price range I think that'd be my choice to try out. For calibre for a new shooter I like 308. Will do anything you need to hunting wise, moderate recoil and ammo is cheap because its a military round and it will be found everywhere that wells ammo. good luck with your decision

your mitts on them.
Find someone that is keen on shooters and go to a gun show.
Take a bore light with you.
Stop by Del's and see what he has in used hunting rifles.
He prices them to sell and it appears by your location you're not too far away

Spend a couple extras dollars and purchase a Remington 700, tough rifles that are tried and true with simple mechanisms. I have always preferred the 308 cartridge as my go too as there are a good variety of loads and recoil is nothing to worry about.

Dont get Savage Axis...POS. Remington 770 are plastic also, Weatherby are one of the best bang for the buck, might be able to find a Vanguard I for like $450.
For a overall caliber to start, and one you would likely have in your collection anyways it would be hard to beat the 30-06. Would not go wrong with 30-06, 7mm Rem Mag, or 300 Win mag as a one does all for BC.

Look into used rifles too. It takes a great deal of abuse to damage a modern commercial hunting rifle. Mind you, this isn't the best time of year for used deer rifles. That'd be just after hunting season. Guy misses his shot and promptly blames the rifle/scope combination.
This time of year is fairly good for varmint rifles, but not as good as just before deer season.
Like Norton says, the Savage combo packages are good value. Even though the scope is a low end scope. The scope are serviceable though.

Some good advice here to buy used.
I think a fine European rifle would be a good start.
I've found starting with "beginner" guns tend to cost more in the long run. Once you appreciate the differences between budget built and quality built guns, its not long before you end up shopping for "more".
You'll be thankful for spending more initially instead of wishing you had what someone has.
Chuckhawks.com is also a good source of honest, unbiased from manufacturers information.

A Sporter Enfield is always a dependable rifle for someone who doesn't want to pay too much to get into the game . You might also try buying a 12ga with a mod choke, that way you can shoot deer with slug or buckshot, bears with slugs, upland game and migratory bird all with one gun. You can find something decent on EE for pretty good prices.
I'm not to sure what i will be hunting yet. I guess I'm just looking for an over all well rounded gun that will get me started. I will have a look into the savage rifle combo for a cheaper alternative. Aside from hunting what would be good for basic practice/target shooting
If your looking at Savages there's the Axis, the cheapest but for not a lot more there's model 11 and 111 combos then you're dealing with the same action basically as any higher end Savage with the ability to change barrels and upgrade endlessly should you want to. Handle them both if you can and you'll see its quite a step up much more plastic used on the Axis.
Does it have to be a bolt gun ? Because a lever action rifle in 30/06 or 308 or what ever you like would make a great first gun and is maybe just maybe a much cooler gun than a budget bolt gun . If you don't scope it or scope it later on down the road you will save a bunch of cash on a scope and learn some valuable lesson in shooting with iron sights .
