Guys - I am looking to purchase a Remington Model 700 BDL SS DM in 30-06 as the basis for my full time hunting rifle and accuracy enhancements. I want a stainless steel barrel, receiver and action with the detachable stainless box magazine and composite stock. I am looking for a lighter "Mountain " style of hunting rifle and the DM is a must for me. Is there a specific vintage I should be looking for on this? Are the newer offerings the same quality as the older ones? If not what's changed and is it better or worse? I don't want to cheap out on this and would rather bide my time and get exactly what I want. Please advise.

That rifle was only built for a few years 95-04 or something like that. I am not aware of the 'mountain' BDL-DM-SS. I think those have the #0 pipe and wood stock. The rifle you are inquiring about have the #2 pipe and 24" of it. 7+ pounds I would think.
The newer SPS Stainless has a rougher finish on the action and barrel. The stocks are passable at best. The finish on the BDL is nicer and the stock seems to be better quality.

Mine is a 2004 SS BDL DM It is much nicer diamond cut on the bolt soft checkering on the stock, and it shoots tight groups im happy with
